Peeing the bed on purpose when refusing naps

I haven't been on TB for a long time so sorry if this has already been asked recently. My 2 and a half year-old has been PT for about 3 months now. Just this weekend she started peeing her pants, especially when we put her down for a nap. She cries and cries, fighting the nap, and then when I come back in she says, "Mommy, I pee!" and she has peed her bed. I asked her why she peed and she said "because I want to GET UP!" At first I thought it was on purpose, and then I started thinking something was wrong when she peed her pants while playing several more times after that. Then yesterday morning she was doing fine going on the potty. Then later in the day she was fighting her nap and my husband came in and she had pooped her pants and thrown the poop all over her room!!!

I don't know what to do about this! I do feel like she is doing it on purpose because she doesn't want to take a nap!

  • Make her help clean it and talk about how gross it is and that is why we go in the potty.  DD tried pulling this and we only had to have her help clean once and she never did it again.

Show her that you have all the patience in the world for accidents but not for on purposes.  She'll find a new way to get under your skin that doesn't involve her having to do the cleanup ;)

  • My 2.5 year old DD did this the other day too.  We had converted her crib to a toddler bed becuase she was potty trained and I wanted her to have access to the potty but after refusing to nap, peed on purpose so she could get up.  I explained to her that this was not ok behavior and put her back in bed.  After a few rough days/nights, we realized she wasn't ready for a bed yet and put the crib back together.  She has been sleeping soundling since w/o any issues peeing.  If she has to go, she wakes up and tells us.
