1st Trimester

yeast infection and 1st tri

I'm pretty sure I have a yeast infection.  From  everything I have read, it looks like the monistat 7 day coarse is safe during pg.  My Ob is not in on Tuesdays or else I would call just to make sure.  I'll probably just wait until tomorrow to get the ok but I am SUPER uncomfortable and tempted to just go to the drug store and start the monistat.  Anyone else have this issue?  (I'm 8 weeks pg)

Re: yeast infection and 1st tri

  • With my first pregnancy I constantly got yeast infections...it was awful but in the beginning they had me use monistat it just never worked for me so they ended up prescribing me a pill that you take and within 24 hours its gone. That always worked best for me, I would check with your doctor though.

  • With my daughter I got three infections back to back and never had one before that in my life..it sucked. I got the ok from the advice nurse at my doctor's office to use the monistat.

  • I kept getting yeast infections while we were TTC and it was so frustrating because I would miss an opportunity when I was ovulating because I was treating with monistat cream. I finally took Rx fluconazole and that seemed to work. My doc implied, because I get yeast infections often, that getting one (or more) while pregnant is inevitable. She said she would only prescribe fluconazole as a last resort because it wasn't proven to be safe for the baby. She also said the only thing that is completely safe for the baby it Monistat 7 (that means no 1-day or 3-day treatments either)

  • I would start taking acidophilus supplements. They help tremendously and they are completely safe. They also help with the immune system and gastro system. They have worked great for me. It takes a little bit to kick in but if you take them 3 times a day it will help. I swear by them. Hope this helps. Smile

  • awww, honey, i'm sorry you're dealing with this.

i used to get em pretty frequently (NOT FUN!) until i changed my diet and started seeing an acupuncturist.

i agree with the last poster. taking some probiotics to get the good flora going is a great idea. monostat and other over the counter stuff may curb it for a bit but it isn't treating the root cause.

not sure what your diet is like (and you may already know all this) but cutting back on sugars (even fruit while it's active) and refined flours is important since candida feeds on that. are you eating many sweet/cold/raw foods or fruit juice? from a chinese medicine standpoint yeast infections stem from a damp spleen (caused by eating all that stuff i just mentioned), basically eat some nice warming foods, like curries and such and stuff with ( a little) ginger and garlic.

     heal soon mama!! <3

  • I got a yeast infection when I was 4 weeks 5 days and called the doctor and he told me it was safe to take Monistat 7 (and that's what I did and it got rid of it).  Good luck!
