Trying to Get Pregnant

Prenatals, multivitamins and natural foods to get vitamins

this was our first month TTC, now we are in the waiting period.  i have been taking women's one a day multivitamin (contains 400 mg folic acid), flaxseed for omega-3's and trying to eat good (salads, veggies, fruits, etc) for the extra iron, folic acid, etc.  i eat bran cereal with 400 mg folic acid (and alot of other vitamins) almost every day.  is this a good way to get the extra folic acid that isn't in my mulivitamin?

my multi's are almost gone so now I am looking for a prenatal, any suggestions on name brands or stores to get them?  I would love the most natural I could find (without food coloring and other nonessentials).  thanks!

This is what I use.  Pricey, but worth every penny to me.  I've used synthetic vitamins before (like what you'd find in a drug store or Walmart, etc) and to me, nothing beats the quality of food based vitamins.  I made the switch and I'll never go back.

  • I take simply one from whole foods. Part of the vitamin is made from green foods. They aren't too bad in price, about 25 a month.

I used these with my DS, and have been taking them again since July.  When I was pg with DS, they were way more expensive because I bought them from Whole Foods.  Now, I use the Subscribe & Save Feature on Amazon, and save a boatload of money that way compared to Whole Foods.

I like that these are smaller, so you take 3/day, but can either spread them throughout the day, or take them at once.  I take them at once before bed.

  • I took these when I was pregnant with DD and I LOVED them.  https://www.promiseprenatal.com/index.asp

Never had any nausea or constipation. I loved that there are 3 different versions for each stage of pregnancy. For the prenatal + DHA its about $17/month if you subscribe.  You also get a pregnancy journal when you sign up.

I also love that its just 2 pills a day. I am definitely going back to these now that we're TTC #2.  I bought a different kind of organic DHA from Amazon - Wholemega - and I like it but it's just the DHA and its 4 pills! Its just too much on top of the D3 I take, plus baby aspirin, plus the prenatal.

  • DH and I are going to start TTC in April and I am taking Nature Made Prenatal Multi + DHA. It's a large pill, but I'd rather do that than take two separate pills. I take it in the morning with breakfast and I haven't had any issues with it.

  • I'm also taking the Women's One A Day.  I have no ideas about the extra way to get more folic acid, but the other ladies have provided a few.  If/when I get pregnant, I'm sure my diet may be adjusted to provide more of what I need as I need it.
  • thanks, I ended up getting naturemade prenatal multi +DHA also and I have no problems with it.  just a heads up, you can print coupons off the NatureMade website.  i found them cheapest at Walmart.
