Pregnant after a Loss

Anyone get pg directly following a M/C?

When I was first pregnant, about a week and a half before I got a positive test, I experienced sudden onset dizziness, the likes of which I had never experienced before. It continued until the baby died at 4 1/2 weeks, then stopped abruptly.

The same symptom turned up again yesterday and has persisted today. I am not charting or using OPKs, so I haven't a clue what's going on with my cycle. While I do know that having a M/C can change your cycle entirely, I honestly thought it was a little too early to get pregnant again. Of course, I acknowledge that I have no way of knowing if I am, in fact, pregnant again or not at this juncture. Perhaps the symptom is the result of some additional hormone shifts. I don't know. It's just bizarre that the feeling is identical to what it was the first time around...

Did anyone else get pregnant after a M/C before they even got a period? How soon did the pregnancy occur after the M/C? Any insight is appreciated. Thanks, ladies.

  • We lost our daughter on 12/19/2011. Found out we were 8 weeks pregnant 2/28/2012. Never had a period so I took a HPT to see if my levels were still elevated from Zoe. It was positive but I didn't think we were pregnant again. I didn't think it would happen so soon since Zoe was so far along in her gestation. I guess if you get blood drawn and it's still rising 48 hours later you're preggers!

  • Miscarriage at 7w1d on 7/23, followed by BFP on 8/30.

Miscarriage at 4w3d on 12/11, followed by BFP on 1/3.

And I agree with exactly everything Theresat858 said.

If you've had unprotected sex, then it's possible that you are pregnant again...however, if your m/c was on 2/26, it is *highly unlikely*, since that was 2 weeks ago, and even women who ovulate early don't tend to ovulate before CD10 or so....and at 4DPO, it is virtually impossible to have symptoms.

I would guess that these symptoms are either due to leftover hormones from your loss (has your HCG been followed to zero, or have you tracked it down by taking HPTs?) or are actually unrelated to pregnancy at all.

I know, I keep doing that math thinking, this would be like the immaculate conception. Ha. My blood work was down to zero last week. I had the symptom VERY early in the first pregnancy, as mentioned, about a week and 1/2 before I tested positive. Anyway, I agree that some seriously funky stuff would have to be going on for me to be pregnant again, I'm just weirded out at this symptom having resurfaced.

  • I didn't get pregnant right away, but about a week after I stopped bleeding with my first miscarriage, I was already ovulating again. If I hadn't have been pregnant at all, I would have been ovulating at that time anyway...it's like my body didn't want me to skip a beat.  I dunno, when it comes to the human body, I'm just never surprised anymore... :-P

See, I have heard of those cases too! A few in fact, where women ovulated within a week of a miscarriage. I'm sure it's rare, but it seems like you can't write anything off post miscarriage, when your body is "re-setting" (as my acupuncturist would say). As much as I want to be able to expect my cycle to do exactly what it did before-hand, I realize that I can't count on that totally.

  • I got pregnant straight away. I thought my cycle would just go back to where it was as if the miscarriage was a period, so when I found out I was pregnant again I had the dates very wrong. So when I thought I was about 7 weeks, I was really about 3 or 4.

Made for a very long first trimester!
