Drinking less bottles - kinda related to Telly's post below

My LO has started drinking a lot less during the day.  Where she was drinking about 26-30 oz a day, she is now down to about 16 oz a day.  The only thing is that she seems to be waking more at night, starving.  I can't, for the life of me, get her to drink any more during the day.  She was STTN from about 3-7 months.  Then she got sick and started waking more after the illness went away.  Once she was all better she had two teeth pop through - that was last week.  Now we're up at least 3 times a night.  This is not alright Angry!!  Has this happened to anyone else?  Should I reintroduce a dream feed before I go to bed or do you suppose its totally unrelated to eating and she's just used to it as a soothing device to go back to sleep?  I told DH that I think I am going to have to start doing a CIO for her at night...I'd hate to do it since we never had to with her.  With DD#1 we did and it sucked.  Any ideas?

Sorry no advice but wanted to let you know we are right there with you!  DD used to sleep through the night also.  It is so hard to get her to take her bottles during the day and then at night she will drink between 6-8oz so I know she is actually hungry.  During the day she only takes 3-4oz usually.  It is so frustrating and I am exhausted!

We went through the same thing a few weeks ago and it sucked.  She eventually went back to sleeping through the night, but she's now drinking a lot less during the day and so far hasn't started waking up again at night.  She has no problem with solids and gobbles them down.  It's totally frustrating.  The pedi said she still needs about 20 oz. of formula/BM at this point, but sometimes it's a stuggle to get her to drink that.

  • Us too.  DD had a few wonderful weeks then her reflux meds were giving us trouble.  We got that situated and again a few blissful weeks of STTN, then cold and teething.  Last weekend she started eating great again but then stopped after a few days.  Today she's doing ok so far, so I'm praying it will get better.
  • Xavier just started doing this minus the wakings. He was taking about 25-30 ounces of breastmilk in 24 hours plus two meals. He started only waking only once a night now and has only been taking about 20 ounces a day now. I read that a nine month will usually take between 16 and 24 ounces. I would try feeding her before bed and see if that helps. I know Xavier was using the bottle to sooth himself back to sleep so we have been giving less and it has helped.

  • The other thing I was thinking it could be is that she's too busy during the day.  So I have tried taking her into a quiet room with nothing going on, but that doesn't seem to work either!

  • This has been Ash for a few months now. Some days I don't think he even gets 12 ounces in a day. We only make 4 ounce bottles because at the most he will drink 3 ounces. We are constantly making bottles hoping he will take them, and then dumping most of it. He is even less interested in nursing and I am pretty much done with BF'ing because he refuses to nurse anytime other than the middle of the night. He is completely uninterested in formula or breast milk unless he is 1/2 asleep. He loves purees and finger foods though.
