i'm going to redo our guest room for J to move into after baby X is ready to move in to the crib
i'm thinking i might just want to do a twin mattress/boxspring on the floor for now and move to a bed a little later.
so what have you done? toddler bed?
Re: BTDT moms... twin bed or toddler?
My DD was 12 months old when we changed her crib to a toddler bed (it converted). She was climbing out of her crib and her doctor said it was safer for her to be in a bed than a crib at that point. We put her in a normal twin bed without side rails at 18 months. She never fell out or got out in the middle of the night.
If you are going to need the crib for the next LO, I would just go straight to a twin bed. I wouldn't waste the money on a toddler bed.

So he was in a crib until 3? Just wondering. I've heard of people transitioning out of the crib at 18 months, but wasn't sure how long others keep them in it.
J will be 18 mo by the time we are ready. i'm planning to have his room ready when the baby comes home so we can slowly transisition him
I had always planned on doing a twin bed on the floor. But our apartment is so small and the boys had to share a room so we went with a toddler bed. When we finally move and get a bigger place I plan on switch DS1 into a twin bed and then since I have it will use the toddler bed for DS2 when he's ready to get out of the crib.
We also moved DS1 out of the crib at 15 months.
We did the same thing. My daughter was a little older than 3 even and we converted her bed right to a full size so we wouldn't have to anymore converting for a while.
We converted DS' crib to a toddler bed at 21 or 22 months. I wanted to keep him in the crib as long as possible, but he started climbing out and waking up mad because he was trapped in his crib. We switched and he started sleeping better right away.
We got convertible cribs for both kids mostly because we have two extra full-size mattresses. So, once they're done with the toddler bed, we'll do the final conversion and use them as headboards/footboards for the bigger mattresses.
I really liked not having to rush the transition just because DD was on the way. But, we didn't spend a lot on our cribs.
Yeah, we booted him out of the crib shortly after turning 3 because we needed it for the new baby that was coming soon
We left him in there because he never tried to climb out of it, never seemed unhappy in it or anything, so we figured why mess with a good thing? I was worried about the transition to a bed, but after 2 nights of having to sit in his room with him while he fell asleep, he adjusted just fine.
