My first US showed I was only 4 weeks 6 days

I went in for my first US yesterday and was expecting to get to see/hear the heart beat becasue according to my last period (1/16/12) I would have been almost 8 weeks. However, when I was was US it showed that my baby was only at about 4 weeks and 6 days. I freaked out initially thinking that maybe my baby stopped developing at that stage. My doctor is reassuring me that she just thinks my "dates" and ovulation is off and that Im just not as prego as we had thought (or I would have already miscarried). I did have slight spotting the first weekend of February-which once I found out i was prego I thought maybe that had been implantation but now the MD thinks that was just a "weird" period that I had and that I really got prego around Valentines day!
Has anyone else had an experience like this? Im just freaked out and dont go back for another US for 3 weeks-which would put me at 8 weeks! Im praying everything is fine and my baby is developing as it should!!

You saw your baby at 4w6d?
Sorry I have no experience with this but I think its amazing if you saw a baby at that time of its age.

My Ovulation Chart

If I went off my Last Period my dates would totally be off since my cycles range from 30-59 days. I temped used OPKs and charted and this helped me figure out when I ovulated so I know my exact conception date. Without knowing when you ovulated you truly don't know when you conceived.
By the way this happened to me with my first son, I wasn't charting so I went off my Last Period I thought I was 10 weeks but turns out I was 8 weeks at my first appointment
I am also going through this. I went last Thursday thinking I was 7 weeks but my sac was only measuring about 5 weeks. I was / am really worried also. However, my doctor is also thinking that I am simply not as far along as previously thought. Even though the sac was empty (which he said is common at 5 weeks(ish)) he said that it looked really healthy. He said it had a bright white ring around it.. I guess this is good? I am going back this coming up Wednesday to check on growth and development. I am praying for good news, actuallyI am just calling it into existence!
Anyways, please keep me updated and I will keep you updated. It would be awesome to have a buddy dealing with the same thing that I am!
Have you been back after the first US?
Pretty much the same thing happened to me. I keep track of all my periods and based on that I should have been a little over 5 weeks when I went in for my first u/s but the sac only measured 4w3d. The lady who did my u/s and the nurses there said that is it possible I could be further along but we wont be able to tell for sure until we can actually see the baby and be able to measure development.
I, like you, was a little freaked out, but after everything I have read and everyone I have talked to they said it's normal for a first u/s so early on in pregnancy to read that way. I know it feels like FOREVER to wait for the next u/s, ( I'M DYING!!!) but I'm sure that everything will be fine. Like the PP said, keep us all updated and I will too!!! Good Luck!!!
No they told me that I didnt need to come back for 3 weeks when I would be right around 8 weeks. She feels confident that all is well, esp since they could see the "yolk" just that I was too early really to have recieved a US. They dont usually US woman until they are 6-8 weeks but since according to my LMP i should have been 7ish but apparently my ovulation was off!
