How fast did you get pg with #2?

Hi ladies! I have a six month old and my H and I decided to start trying for #2. We want them close in age (I never had that and wished I did), plus I'm 33 and want the option to have three if we want. We were going to wait for Summer, but started thinking why wait...there are benefits not waiting and waiting so we're going for it. I got pg on the first try with my DS, and wondering if we'll have the same luck this time (or similiar). I know everyone's different of course, and my OB said not to expect this will happen again (haha prob doesn't want me to get my hopes up, but read you're more fertile the first year....so started prenatals and just want to be prepared.

So how long did it take you ladies? Any advice for 2U2. I can't wait! I love seeing my DS interact w/ kidddies at Gymboree, etc. Too sweet. TIA!!

  • I was pregnant by 6 months PP after DS1.... while on birth control. Your body is most fertile after having a baby, so I think the odds of you getting pregnant again, quickly, are good. GL!

When DD was 8 months old we stopped trying to avoid pregnancy, and figured that sometime around her birthday if we weren't pregnant we'd start actively trying (charting ovulation signs).  We got pregnant the very first month of not being careful, and honestly I was kind of shocked.  Baby #2 is due in May and they'll be about 17 months apart.
  • Oh boy! Thanks ladies! May be here sooner than later it sounds like :)

That's what we said- if we aren't by the end of Summer we'll 'try'. Guess we'll see. lol

  • We tried when ds was 7months and got pg my first cycle. :D Good luck!
  • I got pregnant my first cycle without preventing with both DD and DS.
  • OH MY GOODNESS! I can't believe everyone got pg on the first try. Do you know if it was your ovulation period. I wonder if you ovulate more than once a month the first year...

I love the responses! Geesh, I am def taking my prenatals (just incase!). :)

  • He was a surprise, so no time at all? Lol
  • We caught the 1st egg when my fertility returned.  DS1 was about 9 months old.

I had just met with my OB to ask about ways to get my fertility to return naturally.  (DS1 had already night weaned and was eating solids.)  I tested positive 10 days later.  I was probably already pregnant when I saw my OB.  Haha.

Same for us. The plan was to try when she turned 1. So we are a little ahead of our "plan"

  • We never prevented and ended up getting our BFP when Connor was 10 months old. AF came back about 3 months after having him even though I was nursing.

We got pregnant on the first cycle with Connor.

  • DS is 7 months and we have been TTC since he was 4 months.  It happened right away with DS so I am a little disappointed (I hope no one who has had TTTC takes offense).

    Good luck!!

  • I got pregnant the first month of trying.  With DD I stopped taking the pill and was pregnant after my first cycle.  My husband often jokes that our kiddos are one shot wonders.  I feel blessed that it is that easy.  I too am 33 and I would like to have at least one more.  Next time I will wait a bit, though.

  • My boys are 12 months apart to the day. They share a birthday! I love having them so close. We also have a school-ager. Like pp, we got pregnant on the first try. It's easy for me now as my 2 month old sleeps so much. I'm sure it will get more challenging in time but I'm thrilled they'll have each other to play with. GL!
  • I got pg without ever having a period and on the mini pill!

  • My period didn't return until 11 months postpartum. We started trying when he was 13 months and it took 2 cycles. We got pregnant on the first cycle with him. I don't chart though but looking back I think I may not have a really straightforward cycle and I think I'll try charting next time just because I'm curious.

You may want to crosspost this question to another board. Everyone here is either pregnant with 2u2 or had/have 2u2 so it's a pretty biased group since we obviously all got pregnant fairly quickly or without trying.

  • I got pregnant without ever having a period too. We weren't using any birth control though. It must have happened a couple weeks after DS stopped nursing, but I didn't find out until almost 12 weeks pregnant. With him I was charting and TTC and it happened the first cycle of that. Ironically, though, the first 11 months of our marriage we weren't using birth control and I didn't get pg til I started charting.

I got pregnant on our first cycle of trying for #2.  With #1, it was the second cycle of trying.

    This.

  • It had to quit nursing to get my period back. I got pregnant the first cycle and m/c at 5w.  I got pregnant again the second cycle.
  • It took 18 months to get DS.  I weaned my DS at 6 months to TTC#2 - I never got a ppAF and got pg with DD the first month "trying" (not sure you can call it that - I had no idea when I was ovulating since I hadn't had AF).

Now for #3 - that is a different story.  Got pg after 5 months but m/c.  Will be going on a year ttc #3 in May Sad  We may give up if I am not pg by the end of the summer.

    TTC#1 = Success on Cycle#19 with Clomid/trigger/b2b IUIs; beta#1 (15dpiui) 200, #2 (18dpiui) 433, #3 (22dpiui) 2356; TTC#2 = Surprise BFP 9/2009; TTC#3 = m/c at 6 wks, 10/29/11; BFP#2 4/1/2012... Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • With DS we werent trying but it was the first time DH was home from the rig while I was Oing....and I got pg when we had a whatever moment. it was 6 months after I stopped taking BCP after 6 years.

With DD I was nursing but had gotten my period at 6 mo pp. We said what the hell when DS was 9.5 months (planned on ttc at a year) and got pg that week...they are 18 months apart and I love it.

With this baby we wanted them no closer than 24 months....I had one cycle where he came home on the tail end of me ovulating and so we missed it, and the next cycle I took a OPK and got pg that cycle. I have the same EDD as I did with DD.

I would say make sure you are REALLY ready for it. For me, BFing while pg was the hardest. So if you are BFing, consider that.

DS was 10 months old when I got pregnant with DD. We had orignially planned on trying when he turned 1 in March, but in December we decided to stop using any BC in January and just see what happened. It took us 2m/c's and a year and a half of trying to have DS so we figured it might take awhile. Nope, got pregnant the first month of not preventing!

They are a few days shy of 18months apart(DD was 4 weeks early) and while it is difficult at times, I love how they interact with each other. DS tries to share his toys with DD and always has to know where she is. He gets very distressed if they aren't together. Sometimes they just look at each other and laugh and smile. Very worth it :)

    Good luck!

  • Lurker here, I don't have 2u2 and this board is a little leaning towards those who got pregnant quickly ie they have 2u2.  I don't know whether you BF, that makes a difference too.  I EBF workin >FT and didn't get a period until DD2 was 16mo.... then as below I got pregnant every time I ovulated and my DDs are 2y9mo apart.

    GL!  Everyone is different.

5/08- blighted ovum, spont ab; 2/20/09- epi, VAVD, Girl! breastfed 24mo; 10/10- blighted ovum, spon ab; 12/10- no fetal pole, Cytotec; 11/20/11- unmedicated SVD, Girl! breastfed 18mo; 11/7/13- unmedicated SVD, breastfed 18mo; 2/11/16- unmedicated SVD, exclusively pumping to at least a year.

  • DS - 5 months trying

DD - 3 months trying, but pretty sure I didn't ovulate the first month (1st post-partum cycle)

  • I'm a little late on posting.

DD took 5 years and IVF/ICSI to get. Medically speaking IVF was our only option from here on out so our plan was to use our last frozen embryo in summer 2012.

4 months pp I got the surprise of a lifetime!! We weren't "trying" (no use after our medical issues) and we obviously knew we didn't need protection.

Wow, congrats! That's amazing. That's why I posted on this bored. I understand most women on here have gotten pregnant rather quickly to have 2U2, and seeing if its because your more fertile the first year. I know everyones different, but would love them to be close. Guess I'll see!
