nuchal ultrasound and gender

had my nuchal today, which luckily went well.  such an amazing experience and i totally fell in love (first time expectant mother).  im almost 13 weeks and i asked the tech to predict the gender.. she gave me an educated guess. in any of your experiences, how accurate could she be.  she told me a girl.

happy pregnancy ladies!

Re: nuchal ultrasound and gender

  • if they go by the 'angle of the dangle' they can be pretty accurate.  I wouldn't go painting things pink  Stick out tongue  but they were right for me with DS and all of my friends that have gone to the same place have also been correct for a mix of boy and girl babies (I didn't have the NT with my DD).  But if they are just going by looking for 'parts' between the legs or not, it won't be as likely to be correct. But the angle of the dangle is more likely to be correct especially the further along you are when yo have the scan.

  • I'd take it with a grain of salt.  My doctor told me that sometimes they can tell the gender but at this early stage some parts can look similar, so they might be wrong.  My DH guessed the gender correctly with our first, but we didn't ask the tech to try.

  • Our tech guessed correctly at our NT u/s with our 2nd but I wouldn't start buying pink until your 20 week u/s...

  • When we had our NT scan, the nurse said she's not supposed to guess but she told us anyway that she thought we were having a girl.   Then the doctor came in and we asked him to guess and he said boy almost immediately, and when we asked how sure he was he said "I'm 93% accurate with my guesses at this stage".  Well, he was wrong. :)

I think the nurses know better than the doctors sometimes!

  • No way I would trust an u/s that early, they pick 18-20 weeks for a reason. DH according to his u/s at 20weeks was suppose to be a girl, his twin brother and sister were suppose to be 2 boys. They aren't even right at 20weeks all the time.

  • I was told girl both times at the NT. one was a girl, one was a boy. 50/50. Shocker! :)
