Please weigh in! (Re: baby names, girls)

We're having a really hard time agreeing on a name for a baby girl!! We've had a boy's name figured out right away, but we just cant seem to find a name for a girl and its beginning to frustrate me a little bit now. The top two contenders are:

AVA - very pretty, and of course, thats why its sooooo popular! I like it because of the way it sounds, the name cant be shortened and i'm sure she'll like her own name. I dont like it because its so common and is it me, or does it sound a little princess-y!??

OR

ELISE - I like this name because its feminine and not very common anymore. The nicknames (Ellie or Lise) that may be derived from it, I like as well. I dont like that it may get confused with Elsie...

My son's name is Larsen...  Ladies, I really would value your opinions!! (Also, middle names!? lol)

  • I vote for Elise. I think it's pretty and not nearly as common as Ava, and Elise and Larsen is a good sib set. Also, I don't think it'll be overly confused with Elsie. I'm not very good at middle names though. Good luck!

  • I love the name Ava and I don't think it matters if it is popular.  As for Elise, I work with an Elise and Elsa and they get called each other's names all the time.
  • Elise was a contender for us. It is our middle name pick. It's my moms middle name. It gets my vote!!!

  • Well, the good news is both your girl names are super pretty. Elise was always one of my favorites (I have an aunt Alice, pronounced elyse overseas)

I love em both, if I had to choose, I'd go with Elise. But what about Ava Elise? Or depending on your last name Elise Ava __

Agree with all of this! I would like to add that I think longer mn's sound best with Elise though, like Evangeline or Victoria for example. Or a short one syllable mn might work best if you have a long LN.

  • Elise. Would never confuse it for Elsie. Over Ava.
  • Elise.  Don't worry, it won't get confused with Elsie.  Also you could do Eliza or Aliza which is similar.
  • Elise.  Elsie is such an uncommon name I can't see there being a mix-up.

This! I find this so pretty :)

  • I really like Elise. It was on my list for girl names. I like Ava as well, but think that it is very popular and has been used a bunch in the last couple of years. GL, both are great and you really can't go wrong with either.

  • Elise!

I think both go well with your son's name (which I really love). Elise is just less common and I've always found it to be a very lovely, short, sweet, classy and feminine name.

  • I love Ava. It's beautiful! Who cares if it's popular right now? Just go with whatever you like the most!

  • I love the name Ava- it was on our short list of girl names before we found out we're having a little boy. I know it's really trendy right now, but it's still not as common as, say, Emma or Bella these days. What do you think of Ava Elise? I think it is a very beautiful and feminine combo. Sounds like a movie star!
