Ugh, evaluations...

Even when you KNOW what the results are going to be...why must it still feel like a sucker-punch to read them?

We got the written results from LA's preschool evaluation and I KNEW where the deficits would be and I KNOW that reports are written to focus on the delays (and skim over the good stuff).  Yet, even though I know this, I still hate reading them...

No real point here--just venting to people that I KNOW will understand!

(and yes, all my KNOWs being in caps was intentional Smile)

  • Yes, total suckage.

You spend 90% of your days getting excited about every little new skill, and then someone comes in telling you how all that progress still leaves your LO dreadfully behind his same-age-peers.

Reminds me of my high school gym teacher. We had a jogging unit and I really tried hard. I improved my time by a minute or two and was really happy and proud. He gave me a "C" because there were still a lot of kids who ran faster.

  • It's like climbing a ladder.  As parents we're looking down at how far our child has climbed.

Everyone else is looking up at how far they still have to go.

This is a great analogy. Evaluation reports SUCK.

  • My daughter has a speech delay and we are trying to get her services through EI.  After her last evaluation she didn't qualify for services, which was frustrating, but I still felt that same gut-punch feeling reading the report.  We're having her re-evaluated and I really hope she qualifies but this will mean reading anothe report. I like the ladder analogy.
