I have been getting some pretty uncomfortable rib/back/shoulder pain on my right side where LO seems to be hanging out. I had a massage last week and that seemed to help but its back with a vengence! I apply a heating pad on it when I get home from work but that only really helps while I have the heat on. When I am sitting at my desk it just gets worse and worse throughout the day. Any suggestions? Im dying here and I have so much longer to go
Re: Rib/Upper back pain
I mostly just lurk on the bump and haven't posted in a long time, but I had to respond to this because I've also been having major issues with this. It's gotten pretty debilitating and difficult to manage for me too.
I am seeing a chiropractor, and I would definitely suggest that if you haven't already (someone who has specific experience with pregnant women of course). I've gone several times because the kicking in the ribs apparently causes something to slip out of alignment with the spine, which my chiropractor believes leads to the back pain. The adjustments help temporarily (until he starts kicking again) and don't really help with the sharp pains in my ribs, but it's better than nothing and at this point, I'll take anything that allows me to function to some degree.
The other thing that has helped me is a water massage. Basically a therapist massages and stretches you in a 92 degree pool. It's incredibly relaxing and the pain relief actually lasts for a couple days usually. You might want to check if there are any warm water pool options like this in your area.
Thanks for posting this! Hang in there; I totally feel your pain!
Try ice. You don't want to heat an already inflamed area. I ice that spot all the time and it really helps. You can get an ice pack that has a star on it to keep it where you want it at any drug store.
Good luck and feel better!
