  • You need to discuss this with your OB. If you weren't exercising regularly before you got pregnant it is not always a good thing to start once you become pregnant so I would talk to your OB about what she recommends.

    +1

A general rule of thumb is that you can definitely continue the same type of exercise as before, provided it's nothing that could cause falls (ie, no rock climbing, rollerblading, etc).  You want to listen to your body, don't overextert yourself, and keep hydrated!

I was a very active person, ran/walked a lot before pregnancy, and I jogged up until delivery.  It'll help keep your sanity in check and get rid of nervous energy!

  • Generally all pregnant women can benefit from adding walking to their routine even if they were inactive prior to pregnancy.  A healthy nutritious diet will help keep your weight in check to a certain degree however often women will gain what they will gain no matter how active or how healthy their diet. Try to embrace your new pregnant self and know that the weight will come off after delivery.

  • It all depends on your fitness level and what your body is used to.  My Dr. told me since I already was hitting the gym everyday and running long distances that I didn't have to modify at all.  He did however say now is not the time to try out something new.  If you want to stay healthy and in shape while your pregnant then you should def incorporate some kind of exercising.

  • Its not "inevitable that you will get fat." You put on weight but that doesn't mean getting fat, I don't consider the 8 extra pounds I'm carrying around to be "fat" or that they make me "fat."  However, that being said, if you weren't a regular exerciser pre-pregnancy you need to talk to your doctor and see what types of exercises she recommends for you.  Likely walking will be a good option.  You can do lots with walking to keep it fun (intervals, hills, different locations, etc).  I would also concentrate on how you are eating because staying healthy isn't just about the exercise aspect.
