I agree to a point, but given some of the things Santorum specifically has said, and the fact that he's still getting a significant number of votes, makes me still have to feel a little like it's actually a war on women for a significant minority.

Can you expand on this?  I'm not caffeinated enough yet.

  • I think the actual "war" has more to do with a skewed perception of morality and Christianity, but women are the natural victims.
  • imaget watley:

Yes. I firmly believe there is a war on women going on in this country.

The real issue everyone should be focusing on is the economy, but since none of these asshoIes have the slightest fuckings as to what we should do to fix it, they are trying to win votes by pulling in the religious zealots.

These people don't care about our country, or even our unborn children - they care about money and power. And they are proving that they will go to unthinkable measures to attain it.

The people they are playing to truly believe that America is a sinking ship because we've "lost our way", but the truth is, their completely whacked out "moral" agenda is going to sink us into oblivion. I'm very concerned about the state of politics.

    All of this.

It is very frightening to me that people like Santorum have a large following and that the bills that have been passing recently (like the one in VA) aren't actually just a cruel prank.

I want to make t-shirts that say "Hey old white dude - stay out of my uterus!"

I agree with this but WOMEN are voting for this crap too!!  Why would a woman WANT to take away her reproductive rights?  I understand that you may not agree with abortion, but I feel that in some situations it can be justifiable (rape, incenst, not financially or emotionally capable).  It's like they operate in this perfect world where all babies are wanted, but we don't live in a perfect world and our laws should reflect that.

Okay, so I'll change it to "Hey old white dude and anti-women women - stay out of my uterus!"

I think that should cover it.  I agree with you, BTW.  I can't believe women suport that guy.

Because religious affiliation often overshadows the stupid things people say. My own mother wanted Santorum until I started showing her different things he had said. She was blissfully ignorant to the stupid things.

My mom did too.  Urgh.  I'm so scared for my daughter!

I don't believe that there's a "war on women" in this country, but I agree totally with the middle two paragraphs. It should be about the economy and not about the social/moral issues that draw the far right in. But the primary process is all about proving how liberal or conservative you are to get your party's nomination, and then once you're the nominee, it's all about proving how moderate you are to win the presidency. It's a huge flaw in the 2-party system. But then I'm a libertarian so what the hell do I know?

Amen, sister.  It is so annoying how flip-floppy these guys are.  If/when Romney gets the nom, he's going to head back towards the left to try and get the independent vote.  At least Santorum stands his ground and is firm on his convictions (although it's crazy).

  • I agree with PP that its a war on intelligence. And women overall tend to be more intelligent and we are the child bearers creating more intelligent beings.

I think we should form our own political group or some such shiit, Mothers Against the War on Women (MAWW), and have protests and sit ins and such. Who is with me? (being serious and stuff, we should have a FB page and a website and everything)

EDIT: or T-shirts "(stop sign) the War on Women"

  • I definitely think it's a war on women.  You know if women were trying to get all up into men's genitals and reproductive rights, it'd be a completely different story.  God, the hypocrisy is ridiculous.  It's not the 50's, right?  I thought we were done with this shiit.

I agree with all of what you said....except I wouldn't put it all on the politicians.  Our general population has to take some blame.  When you ask people what party they belong to and WHY....95% of the time they're going to tell you about their social/moral beliefs.   But, if everyone actually looked at how the other issues impact their lives, I think all voting would be a lot more moderate.  The politicians are just smart to target the uneducated masses.  I really hope the focus shifts once we get into the presidential election debates.

I don't understand. If you don't follow any organized religion, why do you care about  the convictions of Catholic organizations?

Please refer to the recent BCP debate (the Catholic Church was the most outspoken against it) and political leaders such as McDonnell and Santorum who base their laws on the CC's beliefs.  I wouldn't care at all about the Church's belief if they would kindly stay out of politics.

You know who stayed out of politics...Jesus.

    LOL.

You know who probably gave Mary Magdalene free access to birth control?

Yep, you guessed it - Jesus.

    I don't.

The last I heard, Viagra had no medical benefits other than getting it up.

BCP can be used for medical reasons other than to prevent pregnancy.

There is a gray area...erictile dysfunction is a medical issue, and if it were affecting me in my relationship you better believe that I would think my 30-something husband should have it covered.  I'm not making an argument that it shouldn't at all.  Just pointing out the hypocrisy.

Actually it's not even a gray area.  I agree with twats.  I'm just using that agreement to argue that BC should be covered, end of story.

I still disagree.  There is a difference and the fact that having Viagra on health care plans is somehow more acceptable than BCP is wrong.  So so so very wrong.

It can't be an "either/or" scenario.  It has to be both if they're making the case that Viagra is medically necessary.

Because women having sex are sluts and men having sex are being normal men. And, we've come full circle.

I guess I'm saying if we want equality, shouldn't we want our medical needs to be equally met?

Funny you say that. I'm on BC for exactly this reason. To control loss of iron due to such heavy cycles. I'm just lucky that my H's insurance still covers it. I'm sure that insurance companies are going to jump on this opportunity to cover less products with the rest of the idiots for financial gain.

Absolutely.  It's not equal.  At all.  And it needs to be fixed.  And, it probably won't be any time soon.  It's absolutely disgusting.

But I don't think you achieve equality by going after ED drugs or discounting their importance.

But maybe hitting them where it hurts will make them appreciate how stupid it is to discount BCP as being only for sluts and prostitutes.

Because I work at a catholic school too and if I were to start working FT, this would affect my coverage. I don't give a rats ass about their convictions. I pay for my insurance premiums, so I should be the only one who decides what products and procedures I need with my doctor.

No, you should exercise YOUR freedom of choice, and not work for them. You don't expect a whole organization to bend to your will, you exercise your will and don't associate with an organization that does not line up woth your beliefs.
