Hi ladies. I just peed and it was very red. My first fear was blood coming from the cervix, but I really don't think that was it. No blood on my underwear, no blood on the toilet paper, I washed my hands and checked with a finger -- nothing but healthy cm. I managed to pee a little more in a white paper cup, and it was red. No clots or spots, just like food coloring had been stirred in. BUT -- I had a lot of beets for lunch. So, it could be blood, or it could be beet dye. Beets haven't done this to me before but I just read online that iron deficencies can cause this when eating beets; I don't know if I'm iron def, but I'm definitely tired and in pregnancy, who knows, maybe I am. SOOO . . . would you call the doctor after hours, or wait till 9am tomorrow?? It could totally just be beets. But if it's blood, should I panic?
Thanks!

I'd suggest calling and asking what you should do. Reddened urine could mean UTI or bladder/kidney infection.
GL!
Beets always make me pee red... I would bet it is the beets. If it makes you feel better, definitely call. Have you had any painful peeing? Typically if it's blood in your urine, it's because of a bad infection (at least in my experience).
Side story - My poor little DD came running out of the potty in a panic the first time she peed after eating beets when she was potty trained. She yelled, "I'm dying (sp?)!"
painless blood in urine without any urinary symptoms of pain and itching and burning is a sign of bladder infection ( cystitis in medical terms)
i had it 3 weeks back ..i also peed red. dont panic . u need to get urine culture done and your ob will place u on antibiotics .. after only one day of antibiotics it cleared up from me. u can call now . they can call in the prescription of antibiotics for u .

Beets could be the cause! I would wait out the evening and see if more fluids clear it up. Then you will know if it was the beets or not. If your not having any pain though I would assume its the beets.
I know how frantic stuff like this can make me .. so if it really worries you call your doc. He might just tell you to wait til the morning too!
I am hoping its just the beets!
