3rd Trimester

2nd time moms which sling/wraps do you like?

I ended up getting a baby bjorn with my 1st DS and I liked using it when he got a bit bigger (3 mo), but didn't find it useful when he was smaller. This time around I was thinking of getting a sling/wrap for LO, mostly because it will leave my hands free to chase and deal with the 2 year old. Was just wondering which ones you used and liked.

  • I have a bjorn and borrowed a sling wrap thing from sil... I liked the bjorn better.

  • This time around...Bjorn, Becco Butterfly and a simple Ring Sling for later hip carries.

I also tried (and we hated) the Moby Wrap,  Peanut Shell Sling, and Babyhawk Mei Tai.

  • My SIL had the moby wrap for her newborn when she had two other kids under 2 to chase around. She loved it. And it looked nice because the baby could be tucked into it in a craddle hold position and still be held sturdy.
  • I had a ring sling for when DS was little-little (0-3 months I guess).  After that, I used the Bjorn (bought it at a consignment sale so it was cheap & in good condition).  I used that until he started to get too heavy (probably by 7 months).  Then I just used a stroller.

Some people say not to use the ring slings until they're older but 1) DS had good head control since he was born (nurses & docs were amazed that he was holding his head up) & 2) you can use the ring slings for newborns, you just have to make sure you use it properly & follow the instructions for the newborn carry (& don't get one that allows no air to get to the baby).

  • I got the Moby and had a love/hate relationship with it.

    At first - Hate:
How do I "use" this 30 ft long piece of fabric? Will I really need to use the instructions EVERY time I want to put it on? This tiny newborn is SWALLOWED in fabric. It is SO hard to get her in and out quickly.

    Then - Love:
Hey, you can face forward and see what mommy's doing while I load veggies in the crock pot, dishes in the washer, etc. I think I've got the hang of this wrapping thing. OMG I can breast feed you, in public while walking! This is incredible!

    Then hate again:
I can't take this thing anywhere, it's so big it doesn't fit in the diaper bag, drags on the parking lot floor just to put it on when we arrive somewhere, and baby is so big I can't really walk, sit or stand too close to anything.

Overall - it was okay for at home use. I may opt for something else for when we go out.

  • I have a Moby wrap that I loved the first time around and I definitely plan on using it again.

  • I got one from Lovey Duds. She has an Etsy shop and I think also her own online shop. Lots of fun colors and materials. its similar to the mobi and a bit complicated at first, but then I really enjoyed it.

  • At first we used the moby and then later on the bjorn.

  • I am not a fan of the Bjorn.  I used it w/#1 and it made my back ache, even when he was little.  I love my BabyHawk mei tai.  I was able to wear LO from infant to toddler without any back pain.  It's great because you can adjust it to fit the wearer and the child no matter what age/size.

  • I just bought the k'tan which is the moby wrap but better.  Try to search it on google or YouTube and you will be sold.  It says it is so much easier to use than the long sheet of fabric that moby wrap is.
