Baby Names

Carsyn/Carsen or Karsyn/Karsen

Im not a fan of Y in the middle of a name but Cason being typically a boy name, I need something to make it more feminine.  Is K more feminine than C?  Sooo....

Carsyn, Carsen, Karsyn or Karsen??

  • I really don't like this name for a girl, no matter how you spell it. It's NOT feminine for a reason... it's a boy's name (and barely even that).

ETA: However, if you are set on it, the best one is Carsen. The extranneous K and Y usage is bad.

I agree completely.  I'm really over seeing the girl name trend with k's and y's.

  • I don't think a y or a k makes it feminine, I think it makes it complicated. My rule of thumb is to choose the easiest spelling for the child, teachers, etc, so I'd go with Carsen/Carson.

  • Its spelled Carson and its a boy's name. Adding extra letters doesn't make it a girl's name. If you want to name your girl a boy's name, just do it, don't bastardize the spelling.

  • Thanks, Kelle and Amanda.  Just needed to know how you think I should spell it.  Youve helped!!

I would think if someone didnt like the name at all, they wouldnt have even replied considering I didnt ask if anyone LIKED it.  Just how I should spell it.

I completely agree. Adding a K or Y doesn't make it more feminine, it just makes it a boy's name that is also spelled wrong.

If you don't really feel like the name is feminine enough for a girl, why not just pick a different name rather than trying to adjust the spelling of Carson? For the record, though, K is NOT more feminine than C. Adding a K or a Y just makes it look misspelled.

  • Once again, I didnt ask if you LIKED it.  If I see a post regarding an opinion about the spelling of a name I dont like, then I usually wouldnt reply with "Dont like the name, regardless of the spelling."

Its sooo simple.  Nevermind, people.  I was just reminded why I never post.  Thank you to those who suggested spelling without throwing out their opinion of why they like/dislike it, etc.

You asked which makes it more feminine.  Most people said, "Neither."  That's your answer.  Sorry if you don't like what you're hearing.  Fancying up a typically boy name doesn't really make it more feminine.

If you use this name for a girl, you're going to get that kind of reaction.

  • Y's or K's do not make it more "girly" to me..  I feel like if you are going to use a masculine name leave it alone, spell it correctly and own it     Carson would be my vote

  • None of the above!

ETA:  And Carson isn't a boy name, it's a surname.  It's a family name for you, spell it like your family spells it.  If it's not a family name, why the heck would you want to honor a family you don't belong to?

  • I'm not against boys' names on girls, but if you're going to do it, own it.

    Carson or nothing.

  • The more I think about it. Carsen or Carsyn will sound different from Carson. Carsen sounds like the beginning of "Carcinogen" to me, which would be a no go. Carson (the son of Car?) sounds better.

Blah, blah, blah... this board is where people COME for opinions on names, so that's what you're going to get. I also gave you my advice on the spelling, but you choose not to focus on that.

The hormones are raging on here today...

And I didnt come to get an opinion on if you liked it.  If so, I would have said "DO YOU LIKE THE NAME CARSON??"

    Oh.

I assumed that you're part of the Carson family since you're planning to honor them by naming your kid after them.  No?  It's just a random surname?  My bad.

  • If you're going to use a traditionally male name on a girl, you're going to do it... so do it right. Spell the name Carson. I like some boy names on girls, but most "son" names bother me. I don't like Carson for a girl, but this is your child, not mine - so my advice remains - spell it correctly!

    GL!

  • Nope to all of the above questions.

If you want to give your daughter a boy name then just do it, name her Carson. It's NMS but at least it's legit compared to the unnecessary Y or K... or both

  • Changing the spelling just makes it spelled wrong.  If you absolutely must use a boy's name for a little girl at least spell it right.

  • I know a little Karsyn.... when I first saw it I thought it was cool, then after being on this board I believe my mind has been warped. After hearing how awful 'misspelled names' are i guess I'm beginning to agree (although it had never bothered me before). Anyway, Carson is probably my vote. And I personally don't mind this name on a girl at all. I think it's kind of cute... good luck!!
  • I don't like this name or any of its spellings.  Why mention the name Cason?  I've never heard of that, either, but are you trying to turn a boy name into a feminine name?  If you want something similar to Cason, why not Cassandra, Cassie, Carly or Carys?

  • Adding a K or a Y does not make the name more girly. It's a boys name, go with something else.

  • Carson McCullers is a fairly well-known female American author from the mid-1900s (The Heart is a Lonely Hunter is one of her novels). I can see it as a girls name because of this, but your spellings just look made-up and silly. It's a nice name for a boy or a girl, but no need to bastardize the spelling. Go with Carson.
