Baby #3 will be here soon and we are considering a larger vehicle (drive Chrysler300 now). Looking for advice on vehicles for a family of 5 with decent gas mileage. Some of the SUV's I was looking at only get 13MPG, that will simply not do!
Thanks in advance.
Re: Vehicle Advice
A good friend, family of 5, has the Honda Pilot and really likes it.
I was just looking at SUV's this morning.
I like the GMC Terrain and it gets great gas mileage but no third row.
The sorento, traverse, arcadia and the cadillac all get decent gas mileage. My girl friend just bought a new acura SUV and loves it.
Best minivan gas mileage - 2011+ Honda Odyssey (2 or 3 mpg better than competitors)
SUV - 3rd row, look at the Pilot, or the Hyundai Veracruz is really fantastic (has average mileage though, 18ish)
I would absolutely go with a minivan (Sienna, Odyssey or Grand Caravan) and not even think about getting an SUV.
A three row SUV would be a waste of space and money since there is little to no storage space behind all third rows that I've seen.
You could do a 5 seater SUV or cross-over and have them 3-across. Don't bother with a Rav-4, Escape or CR-V, they're too narrow to do 3 across comfortably in my opinion. A Hyundai Santa Fe or Ford Edge has enough space for sure to do that though. Those are the only ones I know for sure based on my research.

We love our Ford Edge. The second row of seating has tons of room, even for adults, and the trunk is huge. We can comfortably fit our two larger dogs (both around 50 lbs) and a stroller in the trunk. The gas mileage is pretty good too.
We're looking at the Toyota Sienna and the Highlander (regular or hybrid). The Honda Pilot is similar to the Highlander as well.
That all said, we are doing the minivan because of all the storage as well vs if we need to use the 3 row in the SUV.
