Trying to Get Pregnant

Ovarian cancer and Pregnancy

Can someone please educate me on this?!

I would think, now I am not saying I KNOW anything about this, but I would think that somone that has ovarian cancer would be advised to not become pregnant if undergoing treatment correct?

Can you be diagnosed with this and not be put on any treatments?

I ask because I know someone that has to play the one up game. Another friend and I were talking about the adverse effects of tanning in a tanning bed. This friend has had melanoma and had the cancer removed from her arm and such and the toher goes, "Oh yeah well I have ovarian cancer right now" She is 17-18 weeks pregnant... so I was just caught off guard...

Any insight would be appreciated :)

    Hmm

Your friend has ovarian cancer and that makes her a one-upper? I'm sure she was dying to play that card in her pocket.

Maybe she found out after the fact, or maybe got the ok from her doctor. This post sounds incredibly insensitive.

    ETA

not saying she was lying... just saying shes notorius for doing things like this... that was all. should have clarified that. Im not saying she does or doesnt... Im just saying that I dont know much about the subject is all.

That is how my question came about...was that discussion

  • Nope, didn't think you said she was lying...

See Bolded - She has CANCER FFS. Cut her some slack, calling her a one-upper is rude.

and that is why I am asking about it while being pregnant because I dont know much about this... whether she is being serious or not, I would just like to know more about it...

lol that was great. I dont google much... but I will search there. thank  you

  • I believe sometimes they wait to start treatments (i.e. chemo) until a certain gestational age to decrease fetal risk. I wouldn't assume she was "one-upping" by telling you she had cancer.

It all depends on what type of ovarian cancer.  I was diagnosed with stage 1C in January of last year.  My cancer is in the form of slow growth tumors, not your typical ovarian cancer that everyone thinks of when they hear the term.  I had my left ovary removed for other reasons and they found the cancer tumor after removal when testing for other things. This was not a visible tumor from any scans or ultrasounds and was found by accident. I was given 12 months from my oncologist to get (and stay pregnant) which I finally did.

After this baby is born, I will have to have a hysterectomy and they will need to remove my appendix as well because they believe the tumors have spread there since we found the first one. These are classified as mucinous cancer tumors and the treatment method is removal of the organs, not chemo since it is not your "standard" cancer.

Like I said before, she has these tendencies... It was just how she said it I guess. not your typical, "girls, I have something to tell you" kinda routine... but a different tone. I really hope she doesnt, and if she does, well I will obvs support her through this as best as I can
