Pregnant after IF

For those who used DE

Any advice?

Have recently underwent 4 failed IVF cycles (multiple factors) and are seriously considering cycling with DE by the end of the year.  It has been a long, hard road and we just want to start our family already!!

We are going to take some time to be sure this is the route for us, but we are already cautiously excited about this new possibility. We have been considering DE for the past few months (knowing our last cycle was our last chance w/ my eggs).

One question I do have is, does age affect implantation rates? (am only 30y)

Thank you in advance

Re: For those who used DE

  • I am so sorry for your failed cycles. I can def relate. I am 30 years old, too. I was actually 28, almost 29, when we were told we should use DE. Basically our RE suggested DE after we had numerous failed cycles, miscarriages and poor fert rates with our 1st IVF cycle. We took about 6 months off from all IF treatments to decide to pursue DE. One book that was helpful to us was "Having Your Baby Through Egg Donation.". The pic in my siggy is of our DS, who is a result of DE. We were fortunate to get pg on our 1st DE cycle and we have 16 frozen embies waiting for us. Feel free to private msg me with any questions, concerns, etc! I am very open to talking about it. Good luck!

I'm sorry you have had such a long road.  We used DE after one failed IVF with PGD that showed no normal embryos. Prior to that I had a loss at 17 weeks.

I really was just in a place that I wanted to have a baby and less interested in how I got there. DE seemed like a better option than adoption (to me) and we were successful on our first try.

There is a DE check in on this board and IF and IF Vets on Tuesdays if you want to join. You can ask questions and get a feel for how many people are going down this path.  It's nice not to feel so alone.

  • After 4 years of TTC, 2 m/c and 2 failed IVF's, my RE told us he would not let us continue with my eggs.  I am 43 so a different situation than you.  However, so far it has been a great decision for us.  We transferred 2 embryos and I am 18w3d pregnant with twins.  We also have a couple grade A embryos frozen as well.  It took us almost a year to come to terms with it, to mourn my genetic link and make sure this was the right decision. But once we decided, we never looked back and frequently even forget that we did not use my eggs.  GL to you.  PM me if you want to chat.

Hi there.  I'm 30 and we used DE also.  This was after 3 IVFs over 3-ish years where we didn't have any embryos to transfer.

We transferred 3 embryos  for our first DE cycle and  I am now pregnant with 1.  We are also dealing with severe MFI and I think that impacted the number/quality of embryos that we had.

    GL!

  • Not sure if age has anything to do with it (I was 32) both stuck. I also didn't have any issues with my uterus, mine was purely an egg issue. You definitely want to make sure your lining is very good though! Mine was over 11 with estrogen help. I have two beautiful kids now!! No regrets <: and the process for us with an agency and our hospital working together was from April when we first started looking for our donor to our transfer in mid-July, 1st try and have 8 snobabies<: Once you are ready to move on you will be ready! I had plenty of time to mourn my own eggs as the premature ovarian failure was due to cancer tx I had 10 years before.

Also, thanks to my husband my daughter actually resembles me (me and my husband look very similar). I've had multiple people tell me she looks like me <:

    Gidge,

Thank you so much for your response. I think you may be able to relate to me. we are dealing w/ severe MFI as well and had fair fertilization rates, but unfortunately during our last cycle only 1 embryo (out of 4 fertilized) continued to grow and only made it to 10 cells. Our RE isn't sure if this is a sperm or egg related issue. We have been thinking over our options, but I am scard if we go the DE route, we may not be able to overcome the sperm issue. I am afraid if we go the DS route, the eggs will end up being the issue.

Did you have any experience with this or were they pretty confident you needed DE?

I really appreciate any input you have. Thanks again
