What cleaning products can i use to clean baby storage containers?

I am getting our baby boy's closet ready (yah) and have these rubbermaid plastic storage containers that i am going to put clothes in. What kind of cleaning supplies should i use?

I plan to wipe them down with the regular Lysol Wipes and then i was going to spray them down with Lysol Disenfectant Spray (they make a baby room version!).

 Thoughts, or other suggestions?

  • At daycares, they clean toys with a bleach solution and then allow it to air dry.  There's directions on Chlorox bottles for the bleach/water ratio for kids toys.  I've never even thought about disinfecting a storage bin unless it's been full of dirty stuff and I want to re-use it.  I always wash clothes when I pull them out of storage before I use them.

  • I don't think chemical cleaners and leave-on sprays are necessary.  Why not just use soap and water?

This is what I was thinking...wait until the next nice day and take them outside with some Dawn ;)

  • I think what you have planned is fine, but if you want to go natural you can also use a mix of white vinegar and water.  The smell will dissipate when it dries.

  • We use Mrs. Meyers cleaning products and we use Mrs. Meyers baby in the nurseries.  I wouldn't use anything with harsh chemicals.

  • I would just take them outside and use a sponge, dish soap and the garden hose on them unless something crazy has been stored in them.
