I don't know if anyone even has an opinion on this, but I have to say that I do not like Elmo. He did not exist when I grew up watching Sesame Street. I do have Elmo books for Mason, and I will read them because I love books. I hope to never buy other Elmo product for him (unless he truly ends up liking Elmo). I think thatbthis realky al, started with Tickle Me Elmo. I however have plenty of Cookie Monster, Grover, and Snuffaluffagus love. Don't even get me started on Zoe. Who the hell does she think she is? She didn't even exist when I was a nanny. And how about Mr Rogers? Is he still on TV. Once Mason starts really watching Tv, would love him to watch old school Sesame Street and Mr Rogers. Mr Hooper anyone??? Am I really showing my age?

Re: Very random UO/FFFC
I felt like that about Elmo- I hate how he refers to himself in the third person, etc. But damn if those folks over at Sesame Street don't know what they are doing. My son (2 years old) loves him. And when your kid is sick with the stomach flu, or going through teething hell, well, if Elmo makes your kid smile in that situation... you might change your mind. We have one Elmo doll and Elmo is in a couple of coloring books we have. I kind of like the stupid guy now.
I like to show my kids the vintage Sesame Street stuff on youtube (the Yip Yip Martians, for example). But some Elmo definitely creeps in, and the new ones with musicians (like Feist) are pretty damn good!

DH and I don't like Elmo either. Especially DH! He despises Elmo. That and Dora the Explorer. I guess he is pretty particular about kids shows? Haha
We will definitely be watching some old school shows like old episodes of sesame street and Mr.Rodgers.
I have never been a fan either. His voice has always been disturbing and the shaking WTEffe was that about. But strangely enough I watched the documentary "Being Elmo" a few nights ago - it made me feel a bit better about him. Well actually just the guy who created him.
Random useless fact: Elmo's character started out with a low pitched voice.
Dora drives me absolutely mad. I mean, were they trying to make it rhyme? Because it doesn't. No, I do not like Dora. At all. I have no negative feelings toward Elmo though.
I can't stand that little red pain in the a$$. I really hope my kids don't end up liking him.
I can't stand elmo. He irritates the hell out of me. His voice, the way he talks in 3rd person. He wasn't around when I was a kid. Isn't he supposed to be Telly's nephew? And who is Zoe? I understand coming up with new characters, but it'd be nice to see Elmo fade away.
Cookie Monster, however, is my DD's favorite stuffed animal of the moment.
There are so many things on Sesame Street that are so different than when I was a kid. I'm with you on Elmo. He's not my favorite by any means. DS LOVES Cookie Monster and he seems to like Grover a lot too.
R LOVES Elmo! I, however, do not remember Elmo being in SS when I was little. My personal fav is Big Bird! But my mom bought R a hokey pokey elmo doll for christmas, that he loves(and, hokey pokey elmo was the only way we could get him to sit w/o assist. for a while), and a hugs and kisses elmo for valentines day. He loves the stupid red monster! So now, we have to watch Elmo Dvds that my brother bought him, and R's obsessed!
As for Dora, I'm not a fan. Not a fan of her cousin???? Diego! either.
But, If I have to buy elmo things for a while, I will.
he'll grow on you when sesame street means you can cat nap on the couch while LO is entranced by Elmo's World... Barney is way more grating than Elmo IMHO. A few minutes of Elmo vs a whole show of Barney. I'll take Elmo.
My PBS used to have mr rogers, I haven't looked for him in awhile.
