Another "Room Choice" at hospital question....

The question below made me think of another one!

At the hospital I will be at, they have two types of L&D rooms.  One has a window, but it overlooks the parking lot and is kind of small, but at least lets in natural light.  The other room has a bath tub for relaxing during contractions.

Which would you go for?  Normally a bath tub would skeeze me out, but I figure a hospital would sanitize it more than a hotel would, haha!

  • I've been tempted to take my own cleaning supplies along and have DH or the Doula clean it for me before using it lol

  • Tub, for sure. The window would be important to me for the rest of my stay, but during labor and delivery, the tub would be more important.

This is me! I took Lysol wipes to the hospital so that DH could wipe down the tub before I used it. Turns out I didn't get the chance but I'd love to if I had the option so I think I'd choose the one with the tub.

  • These room choice questions are blowing my mind... Maybe because DS was a c/s no one asked me what room I wanted but it's not a hotel, do these hospitals really ask what room you want? What if you want a tub for labor but the rooms are all taken?

Im confused, never knew you could choose a room....

Also at the hospitals around here (the 2 I've seen) all the rooms are damn near the same.

I am also amazed by this. My hospital as the labor and deliery room and then the PP room. There are no choices

We went for the hospital tour and I was really surprised when they said this!  I guess they have like 1/3 tub rooms and 2/3 window rooms.  When you get admitted, the tub rooms are first come/first serve, so if you want it and they are taken, you get the window room.

And the Lysol wipes are actually a good idea... I will pack some!!

  • I would choose the room with the bath tub.

  • If this is just your labor room, I would take the tub over the window.  If you will stay in this room post-partum, I would take the window.  I have to have access to natural light to keep my internal clock right.

  • At registration my hospital asks if you have a preference, but lets you know that the tub rooms are first come-first serve. That way if you know you are just going to get the epidural as soon as you walk through the door, they don't give you a tub room when you won't use it, when someone else might use it.

Luckily all the rooms have windows too. I had an epidural, but before I got it I used the tub and I loved it! It was relaxing and helped me feel more refreshed for the rest of labor too.

  • I would go with the bath tub for sure. My hospital does not have bath tubs and I really wish they did. I love baths now, it would be so comforting during labor.

This.  My hospital just has L&D Rooms & PP Rooms.  Not too much of a difference (only diff is 1 or 2 L&D rooms are a little bigger because they're on the corners of the building).  We weren't asked what size room we wanted or anything, we just got the room that we got, L&D & PP.
