So itchy!

Ok, so let me preface this by saying I have always had itchy shins when I'm tired, sometimes to the extent of my scratching them until they bleed = /

But, lately I have gotten extra itchy, my calfs are itchy and most of all my back is, every day, non stop, all over! My husband had a look and said he couldn't see any rash/spots etc.

So my question, is anyone else extra itchy? And is it just down to having excessively dry skin due to pregnancy?

  • I'm by no means a dr but I bet its just hormones causing all the craziness...lather yourself in a nice creamy lotion after the shower when your skin is still damp so it soaks in :)

  • i also have been itchy mostly on my legs and lady parts thought i might have a yeast infection but dont so i feel your pain.... i just use a lot of lotion and pray i dont start to itch cuz the my boyfriend starts itching ha ha
  • Thanks ladies, Im glad Im not the only one enduring this annoying itch! I tried diaper rash cream on my shin last night and it actually took out some of the sting!

  • I just read about this!! It's called pruritus gravidarum (but that is most assuredly spelled wrong) and it occurs in 20% of pregnant women.  Supposedly cooling lotions will soothe...hope that helps:)
  • I had this too...I'm just over 4 wks and had this a couple days ago, at night, 2 days in a row.  When you scratch, it just gets worse.  I've had this before, a number of years ago (no pregnancy), and went to see my parent's neighbor who's a dermotologist.  I had iron anemia so I take a 67mg iron supplement each day.  Now, I am taking this in addition to the prenatal.  It only lasted 2 days, so I'd chalk it up to other hormones taking over, but I do believe it had something to do with iron levels.
