Teeth - are you brushing?

How often, and with what kind of toothbrush and paste?  I need to step it up.  We use a banana brush (this toddler training thing) with some training toothpaste (fluoride-free) when she gets a bath, which is like 3 x week.  I need to start doing it every day, I suck.  She basically just bites on the brush, I am lucky to get a few good swipes in.  Is my kid doomed to have a mouthful of cavities??

Re: Teeth - are you brushing?

  • I just wanted to say I suck too, I won't even say how often I do it, its embaressing. I feel like I need to set an alarm on my phone or something to remind me to do it. Im terrible.

  • When I brush my teeth in the morning, I give DD a kid/baby toothbrush and she bites on it and stuff for a little while. After a little bit, she hands it back to me. [I love that she is entertained by it long enough for me to get ready in the morning!] We don't use toothpaste because I think she's a little young for it, but I could be wrong about that. I keep saying we're going to do it at night too, but it just never happens.

  • I try to get it in twice a day (when I remember)  We use the baby orajel one that's safe when swallowed with the finger brush.

I got it at Target for like three dollars, which included tube of paste and brush.

  • Rosie how long do you do it for?  I have that same finger brush that came with the paste.
  • Oh un gee I don't know lol. As much time it takes to do his whole mouth including tongue.  Lol

  • I suck at this too!!  I told DH yesterday that we have to make it part of bedtime routine.  Yesterday was day 1.  I used to do it on bath days, but I've found it's easier to do it at night while she's watching Seasame Street.  DD doesn't like the training toothpaste so we use Tom's Organic Strawberry paste (I got a free sample).

  • We have the Gerber Grins and Giggles finger brush that came with cleaning gel. I hardly ever do it because she only has, err had, two teeth, but now she has 5 coming in so I am trying to remember to do it more often.

  • i was bad about it up until about 3mns old when we started to give p a bath every night, we'd brush with the finger brush thing too. but around 9mns old he started biting us really, really hard when brushing so i got a toddler toothbrush. we only brush once at night (i know we really should be in the am too). he'll let us do it some & then he chomps down for a bit while we're changing a diaper. i think i'm just paranoid about it b/c i seem to come from a long line of "bad teeth genes". i was that kid that had 4-5 cavities every trip to the dentist & my mother was crazy about our teeth.

  • I brush her teeth almost every day but mainly because she "brushes" her own teeth while I get ready in the morning or before we leave the apartment and then I really brush them when I'm done.  She loves it and holds her mouth open the entire time.  We just got her an actual infant toothbrush about a month ago because she got ahold of mine and loved it.  We use the Orajel toothpaste that came with the finger brush with it.

  • so last night I went to town on them with the training toothbrush, then let her have the training toothbrush and try to do it herself.  Well she LOVED that!  Was even moving her arm back and forth to mimic the way I had been doing it.  It was so cute!!
  • My kid is obsessed with brushing his teeth lately. He would do it all day long if I let him. He wants to do it himself, so I follow up with a finger brush to make sure they actually get clean. Lol.

  • I've been using an Oral B Stage 1 toothbrush without toothpaste twice a day since before DS had teeth. I only recently added Weleda Children's Tooth Gel because his molars have started coming in and I just felt it was time to start using it. He thinks it's funny to have minty breath and he breathes in my face after I brush his teeth.

I picked the Weleda Children's Tooth Gel because it had an EWG rating of 2 and it's flouride-free.

  • We brush every night before bed.  We just make sure we get all his teeth as best we can.  He has 14 teeth and 2 more coming in as we speak!  Our pedi told us we should be brushing 2x per day, meh.

15 now, one popped through over the weekend.  We are just waiting for the other to come through.  These are the lower canines and man they have really hurt him!  He had a mild diaper rash and diarrhea, poor baby.  I hope we get a break after these 2.
