How do you keep a changing pad on the dresser?

We bought a dresser that will double as a changing table. Is there anything I can use to secure a changing pad onto the dresser so it doesn't move or is this a problem? The dresser does not have a separate piece to secure a changing pad.

Thoughts?

  • If there isn't something installed for this purpose already in your pad, you can get heavy duty Velcro and use that on the bottom of it and top of dresser...of course you never walk away from baby while on the changing pad anyway, so this really is just to keep the pad from slipping around.  HTH!

THIS is exactly what I did for mine.  It put long strips on all sides to secure it plus the strap that you screw in at the back of the dresser.  It feels pretty sturdy but of course, like she said, just don't leave the baby unattended.

  • Thanks! I wasn't sure if the pads generally come with something or not. This is very helpful!!

  • I had this same exact problem. I bought some shelf liner at Target (the kind used for kitchen cabinets).  It has a slightly sticky texture to it.  I just cut a piece about the size of the changing pad and placed it under the pad.  So far, it's kept it from slipping so much; and I don't have to screw anything into the wall or place any sticky velcro on my dresser.  I still monitor baby closely, but it's enough that the pad doesn't slide while I'm changing baby.
  • We never secured ours.  It doesn't move with DD on it.  Simply the weight of DD is enough.  Plus we never leave her unattended.

I put some of that grippy shelf liner under mine and it works perfectly with no permanant damage to the dresser (unlike the vecro idea).

We did the same thing and it works really well.  Our changing pad does have a piece to screw into the back of the dresser but we never used it.

This. 8 months in and this has never been an issue for us. We always have a hand on her while she's up there so it's not like she's going anywhere.

  • I plan on getting some of that shelf liner or the same type of stuff used to keep floor rugs in place.  My friend did that and it works great!
