Where do you find the maternity photographer?

I searched some online and some are ridiculous expensive! We want digital pictures, but some are charging for $50/each for the digital copy and if you add session fees that will be nearly $1000! Not sure if we want to spend that much...

How do you guys find the right photographer? Any suggestions? I live in western MA.

  • I always say you get what you pay for. Photographs last a lifetime so spending money on a good photographer imo is worth it. We will be using the 2 photographers who did our wedding, they are on the pricey side but do excellent work and are worth every cent.

Exactly. If you are not willing to pay a decent amount, you will not get quality images. Expect to pay a good custom photographer atleast $500 for a maternity session (if not more, depending on where you are located). Try googling "your town's name maternity photographer". For example, "Springfield maternity photographer" and you should get back plenty of photographers.

  • We are using our wedding photographer. She has a program called belly to baby and it is a maternity session and six sessions in the first years for LO. so check around and see if anyone has things like that it can save you a lot.
  • We found ours through FB....one of DH's friends posted a link from their photographer so we could all see the pics and they were beautiful.  So I went to the photographers page and "liked" it and watched everyday all the beautiful "Sneak peeks" she was uploading of Wedding, Maternity, Engagement, and Newborn sessions and just fell in love with her work!

DH called her in Oct for our Anniversary and set up the appt as a gift to me!  I was SO excited!  We paid $400 total that included everything plus a CD with 70 of her edited pics of us, so now we can do what we want with them!

  • As silly as this is going to sound, have you walked through the maternity ward of the hospital that you will be giving birth at? I know at ours, there are professional photos of some babies hanging on the walls and I actually used that photographer. She was wonderful and is highly recommended. That may be something your hospital has also?

  • I agree that you will get what you pay for. If you just want to document your bump and don't need fabulous photos, I have found some very talented people for super cheap on Craig's List. Most of them are starting out and looking to build a portfolio.

  • I have a ton of friends that do photography as a hobby so I just posted on my facebook that I was looking for someone to take them and a lot of people responded willing to take them. :)
