Trying to Get Pregnant

Is a BFP at 6 minutes (instead of 5) still a BFP?

This morning I took a wondfo test, and there was a really faint line at 6 minutes. The directions say to discard after 5 minutes. I then took a First Response test, but got nothing until about 10 minutes, again a very faint line. Because I'm crazy, I took another wondfo, and no line until around 7 minutes. But by this time the original test definitely had a darker line.

I've never gotten any line, evap or not on a hpt test before, but don't want to get my hopes up. Do you think the tests are valid in this time frame?

Details - I'm either 11 or 12 dpo, and my temps went up today instead of down. I normally have a 12 day LP.

  • Do you have a pic you can share of the FRER? They can be read until 10 mins I believe, so if there was a line at 10 mins and it has color, it's probably positive.

  • Can you post the picture? Is is a pink line or gray/white. After 5 minutes should be still a BFP but it may be an evap line. But if you tested with the same urine with a FRER and got a negative it may be an evap on the wandfo. Test again with a FRER with FMU tomorrow. Good Luck!

  • The line is definitely pink, not gray. I took photos, but don't know how to post, I'll upload them as soon as I figure that out!

  • Honestly, what's so hard about taking a test per the instructions? If you don't see a line in the testing time window, it's not a BFP. If you see a line after the time limit, the test is invalid. This isn't that hard to understand.

  • Since all 3 tests developed lines, I would say yes it's a BFP.

  • I am having the same confusion as you. I am getting the faintest line you could possibly see on a wondfo between 5-10 minutes. It is so light that I can't tell if it has any color or not. Leaning more towards it being pinkish, but that may be wishful thinking. Am thinking they are evap lines for me, as the line progression is not getting any darker over three days now (although, I tested way early) and it is after the time limit (which, of course, means it's not valid). Good luck to you though! If I were you, I'd test again tomorrow with FMU using a FRER.

If life were that simple . . . Can you honestly say you wouldn't be emotionally charged and hopeful by seeing a line 1 minute after the test time frame?

I agree with you, OP. And also agree with PPs--retest tomorrow with FMU. FX for you!!

Agreed. In theory, it's not hard. But when you are wanting to see that second line so bad....and then see one appear just a few minutes after the time limit, it's hard not to have wishful thinking...even if you end up just making yourself crazy. Good luck OP!

Being hopeful is one thing. Putting hope in an invalid test is another. The instructions clearly state the time frame in which results are valid.

Kind of... Most tests give you a window.  The wondfo's say to read AT 5 minutes.  I have a hard time believing the test would be valid exactly at the 5 min mark and not a moment after.  That's my only gripe with the ICs... Not much provided in the way of directions!

But, if you want to know that your results are valid, you follow the instructions. It's not that hard.

FFS, go get a digi if you have so much trouble reading a GD line.

  • I agree that you shouldn't acknowledge the test after the time limit because it could be a evap line. I would test again with a digital tomm morning. GL..
  • It's definitely a BFP folks! I tested with 2 wondfos this morning and got positives. I confirm with a doc later today :)
