How big is "bedtime" bottle?

For those who give a bottle (as opposed to BFing)-- how many ounces do you give?  And do they wet through their diapers?  If not, what diapers are you using?  Oh--and do they sleep through the night??

We used to give about 6-7 oz but he would wet through no matter what kind we tried--we used every brand--night time--regular--everything.  Went down down in ounces and found 4 ounces is the magic number but he's waking to eat in the middle of the night.  I give him 5 ounces in the middle of the night but that doesn't even seem to be holding him lately.  This guy is a bruiser---he's already about 23 pounds!!!  So he really should not be this hungry.

We battled this while I BF'd DS1 and I said I wouldn't do this again with DS2 and here I am....but we don't have experience with the whole bottle thing at bedtime--so wondering what the "norm" is for ounces.

  • DS gets 8 oz. He doesn't STTN but he doesn't eat in the middle of the night. I don't know why he won't sleep. We use Pampers cruisers in a size up at night and he doesnt leak. Hth!

  • We give 6oz, and he has around 3oz of water at dinner about an hour earlier.  I was having some leaking issues until I started using buggies overnights.  My ds is also 23lbs and short, so I do them up really tight and hope for the best.  Oh and he usually sttn.

  • My DD is STTN but I'm having a hard time getting her to drink her formula. How many ounces does your LOs' drink through out the day? Her last bottle is where I can get her to take the most and that's about 5 ounces but with a VERY wet diaper in the morning, but so far hasn't leaked.

  • 7 oz she sleeps through the night. sometimes she wets through her diapers but its a rare occasion since we switched to over nights in size 3 ( she wears size 3 little movers during the day)

  • Ours is only about 4 oz...but she eats another 4 oz bottle 1.5-2 hours before that.  She typically sttn or wakes up for a pacifier replacement, but doesn't usually eat overnight (sometimes).  We use target diapers.

  • My twins get 8oz bottles of breastmilk and sttn. During the day, I BF them (4x) so I have no clue how much they're eating.

  • 8 oz. She sleeps through the night (usually!) She doesn't soak through though; although there has been nasty poops in the AM. (Where she does leak out of her diaper because it is so wet.) But that doesn't happen too often.

    She was Pampers Cruisers.

  • 6oz of formula.  She STTN.  She has soaked through a few times (she wears pampers swaddlers) but usually she's fine.

  • 7 oz, STTN 11ish hours. She wears Pampers baby dry to bed and she never wets through them, though she is a heavy wetter and the diaper is definitely full by morning.

  • DD gets 5 oz before bedtime...we have dinner about 30 min to an hour before that.  She is sttn and wears pampers cruisers and haven't had a leak yet! Although it is really full in the mornings.

  • 8 oz, DD STTN and wears Pampers Night times.

Does your LO wake up when he's wet in the middle of the night? I know you have tried lots of diapers and exhausted through many options. If he doesn't wake up, can you try to lay down a felt changing pad on top of the sheet for add'l absorption? I bought ours at Target and use them on top of our regular changing table cover. That way if there is a messy diaper I can cut down on laundry.

  • DD gets 6 ounces and sleeps through the night, most times.  But we never feed her in the middle of the night.  She also gets about 2-3 ounces of water at dinner about an hour before.  We use pampers swaddlers in her size, but she is about 20 lbs and they go to 28lbs.  So she has room.  You might need a size up for bedtime.  What I do that works is (and I always do this--we never get blowouts) I make sure the diaper part with the elastic for the bum area is tucked out.  Like to prevent a wedgy kind of.. Basically I just make sure she has it at its fullest for her bottom.  Does that make sense?  Imagine making sure you spead your undies on your butt.  HAHA.

  • Bedtime bottle is usually around 5 oz, but she wakes up at 10 and will have another  6-8 oz.  she will then sleep in her own crib until about 4 or 5 am, then I bring her to bed with me. At the most she will drink 16 oz from 6 pm- 6:30 am.  I know it's a lot, and most moms have cut out the night feed, but I tried and it just didn't work for her.  She sleeps much, much better with a bottle at 10 pm.

We use fisher price overnight diapers, and she was wetting through them because she's a tummy sleeper, but I figured out if I put the front part of the diaper higher up on her belly, she doesn't leak through.  Haven't had a leak since :)

  • She gets a 7 oz bottle before bed and STTN.  Baby girl wears Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive in a size 4.  She is now between 21-22 pounds but she has been wearing the size 4 since she was about 19 pounds because she was wetting through the 3.  Increasing the size totally helped with her.  Diaper is full and very heavy in the AM but she is dry!

This to a tee. She gets 7 oz (unless she stops at 6 and pushes the bottle away sometimes) at 7:15, out by 7:30 and up and wants a bottle ASAP at 6:30 at the latest. She normally wears size 3 but we ended up getting her Pampers Baby Dry in size 4 and she rarely leaks out of those but it has happened a few time but she seems to just take it in stride.

  • This may sound odd, but have you thought about using a cloth diaper at night.  I get absolutely no leaks.  We have to use hemp inserts because my daughter is a really heavy wetter, however, no leaks, EVER.

We had to switch from cloth to Pampers at night because no matter what combo of MF/hemp inserts I used, she always woke up drenched. :(
