I started having a slight cough and congestion on Thursday. I was hoping it was just allergies. My symptoms have gotten worse every day. Yesterday my cough was extremely mucousy. I slept horribly last night. Had pains in all of my sinus cavities on the right side of my face (throat, nose, eye, head). Now today my cough is dryer but I can barely breath out of my nose. I know sudafed, tylenol cold, and robitussin are all okay to take. Should I try to ride it out by taking those to see if any works or should I go to my doctor? I don't have a fever but am thinking the way things are going I will have one soon. Is it very dangerous to have a cold while pregnant?

Re: Questions about fighting a cold while pregnant.
I'd give your OB a call and see what he or she says as to what to take, when, and how much. Your OB can also relieve your fears about getting sick while pregnant.
I just got over a cold, which was followed by some viral infection. For the cold I relied heavily on my humidifier at night - really helped me to get some sleep and decreased my overall congestion. I also drank a lot of fluids and took it easier. For the viral infection (complete with fever) I used tylenol, fluids, and rest. My goal was to ride it out without taking anything other than tylenol unless it got monster bad.
If i was you, just to err on the side of safety, i would not take anything and just ride it out. You are not suppose to take any of the liquid stuff. i think tylenol is okay to take but i would ask your doctor.
I was in your same situation a few weeks ago. I drank some tea to help my throat (caffeine free tea) but i did not go overboard with it. You seem like you are a little bit worse than i was though. I pretty much took tea for my throat, and then i made sure i minimized my activity for a few days and made sure to lay down and get a lot of rest. It took about 4-5 days for it to be almost completely gone.
Ask your doctor if you are unsure though. Good luck.
My Obgyn gave me the ok to take any acetaminophen-based cold medicine (I used Tylenol cold daytime for two days) and it helped. I was just told not to exceed the dosage.
Of course, only do what you're comfortable with. Feel better!
I just had a wicked cold. I took tylenol to relieve the headache, which was the worst part, and slept with my head more elevated than usual to help my sinuses drain so I could breath while sleeping. While the other medications were safe, they don't help get rid of the cold so I decided to just ride it out if possible.
Unless you think you have some type of infection or virus, I wouldn't bother with my OB (that's just me). There's no cure for the common cold so, unless you'd like them to recommend what cold medications to take to help with your symptoms, there's not much they can do.
