Dramatic Weight Loss after Pregnacy

Okay so it has been almost six days since I gave birth to my daughter and i have lost almost entirely all the weight that I gained during the pregnacy.  Is this healthy?  Should I call my doctor?  I know all women want to lose their pregnacy weight, but loosing it this quick scares me.  What should I do?

  • I think it can be. I've had friends who've had the same experience. Everyone is different. If it makes you nervous, call the doctor.

I'd personally love to have that! I'm 11 days PP and my weight loss has stalled at 22 pounds (I gained 45). I'm nervous that I'll have 23 to lose if it doesn't pick back up again.

  • I can only hope I'm in a similar situation soon. :)
  • I only gained 15 lbs while pregnant, but I lost it all w/in the 1st week. I was pretty darn excited about it!

  • I definetly think total weight gained during pregnancy needs to be considered. If you only put on 20 an lost it all, or you put on 60lbs and lost it all are two different scenarios.  I was down 20lbs 10 days pp but have another 15 to lose.

  • I was down to my prepregnancy weight 2 weeks after having DD. She was a champion BFer though!  I gained 33lbs during that pregnancy and ended up losing 53 lbs in 8 months.

Just keep an eye on it. I was back in my regular clothes by 4 days PP, but still had a bit of weight. I got back down to pre pregnancy weight by about 2 months... but then I kept losing.. and losing... I ended up about 10 lbs less than I ever was before, and it put me in an unhealthy underweight range. I had to work SO HARD to get back up to a reasonable BMI and it caused us some trouble getting pregnant with #2 because I wasn't ovulating until I gained some weight back.

That's just my personal experience. While it may not be so drastic for everybody, you should keep an eye on it and make sure you're trying to do all you can to stay healthy.

  • I'd say your fine, but the comment right above me completely makes sense too. Your original BMI & how much you gained really does play a big part in weather or not you should be worried. My BMI was 20 before pregnancy & I'm there again. I would have to loose 15 more lbs to be in the unhealthy range. I gained 35 during pregnancy & was done 30 lbs by my 2 weeks apt. My OB wasn't concerned. Unless there's something that your not mention (not saying you would), & if you having been eating well before & after, & worked out during the pregnancy. I'd say your fine.
