XP: Announcing to parents after mc?

I had a miscarriage back on October at about 12 weeks. When we told my in-laws at 6 weeks. We showed them a picture we took a couple weeks before off our balcony while we were away for out 1 year anniversary. I was holding a sign that said "See you in May" with an arrow pointing down. We aren't planning on telling them until 10weeks this time, but DH and I have been discussing whether or not we want to do something fun again or just tell them. I'd like to do something creative and fun, but DH says that maybe the novelty has worn off because of last time. :( What do you ladies think? Have any fun ideas to tell the news?

  • I'm not huge on grand gestures, they kind of embarrass me ...haha ... we just told my parents at our regular sunday night dinner :) that was just last week and I'm pretty nervous it was too early!

  • I think you should do the "grand gesture" if you want to. I don't think they will be any less thrilled just bc of what happened in Oct. That is almost the same as you already having a baby and thinking you shouldn't tell everyone in a fun way that #2 is on the way. I say have fun with it bc you won't be able to do it often in your life time!

As for the idea, you could play off the original idea but go somewhere around town and take the same picture and then you can show them pictures of what you did. I don't think they would be expecting that. Or you could just get a shirt "Due in..." and wear it to their house that day.

  • Maybe just a framed photo of the ultrasound would be 'gesture' enough, but still low-key.  I don't know that the novelty ever wears off for grandparents, but I understand your husband's hesitation.  I bought a onesie and showed my parents on Skype, and that's how we broke the news.

  • I don't think the excitement will have worn off for them, and if you want to do something big, do it! But, maybe do something where you are there, or on Skype, so you can explain right away that you are farther along this time..
