A lot of bump ladies rave about the
Baby Crack machine. Not the real name of course, LOL! It is a good price but I am still a little unsure if I want to spend the money. What exactly does it do? Help them fall asleep? Stay asleep? Or is it just comforting? Also...does the projector work really well? Thanks!
Re: Baby Crack machine is on sale - buy or not?
We have a simpler one that doesn't project anything: https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/Product.asp?SKU=13630208
I think it definitely helps DS both fall and stay asleep. It drowns out our household noise (we have a small house, so you can hear everything everywhere) and mimics that shushing "womb" sound.
I was given one as a gift and I don't like it at all.
The sound options (especially the music ones) are obnoxious and not calming in any way. I would much rather have a mp3 speakers/docking station in baby's room and make my own mix of nature sounds/calming music. Turning a fan on in baby's room also works wonders.
I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living my baby you'll be.

Yes, we have that one! The thing I liked most about getting DD used to white noise was that we were able to recreate her sleeping environment anywhere we went. With a swaddle blanket, white noise, and the light show she was always able to fall asleep, whether we were at the in-laws, my parents, or on vacation. It also drowned out background noise we didn't all have to tiptoe around. I definitely recommend it!
The projector does work but we had to replace it twice because it broke. BB&B is amazing at taking things back so we never had a problem. Getting a new one for this LO too!
I like the smaller size of that one. I haven't been to BBB in forever! I need to find a coupon.
I wish I could listen to the sounds online! How weird they aren't calming, isn't that the whole point?
Oh ya I can see the problem with a 45 minute max. Hmm.
We actually only used the waves or ocean one.
We used the fisher price seahorse when he was newborn/infant age, DS still loves that thing and still sleeps with it although it's rarely turned on. Around 8 months (for Christmas) we got him the Leap Frog Scout dog. It plays him songs for 15 minutes and we turn it on and pick the songs it plays for him. If he's still awake after the 15 minutes, he actually will turn it back on himself.
I loooooooove my Homedics SoundSpa. It's a lifesaver. We've used it all night every night since DS came home from the hospital. The rain sound is very soothing and keeps DS from stirring and startling at every little noise.
I'd buy another even at twice the regular price, I love it that much.

Just read the happiest baby on the block. No other gadgets needed other than a sleep sack to swaddle.

I just wanted to point out that it is untrue that it only stays on 45 minutes. I've used this one with DD her whole life on the rain or ocean setting, and it's on all night. We use the projector nightly now because she isnt a fan of the dark. Never had an issue with it and its great to have to drown out outside noise.
We have this exact same one...and the same situation too. (small house etc) We didn't start using it til 10 months or so, but it has been a great help both at home and when we travel.
I would say YES, get some sort of noise machine but it doesn't have to be this one. We have this one and like it but don't ever use the projection (have it for first DS). I just bought the Sleep Sheep for baby #2 but the downside is it's battery powered vs. plug in.
The reason my DS#1 likes this is just the white noise. He likes the projection and plays with it but never at night and didn't when he was a baby.
