Magic Bullet or Baby Bullet?

My son doesn't eat much and I've found that he will drink smoothies. Our blender is terrible (doesn't crush ice, leaks etc). I wanted to get a new blender to make food for the new baby anyway so I'm looking into it now for smoothies but it will also be used frequently for baby food. I'm curious if there's an actual difference between the baby bullet and the magic bullet or if it's just a marketing ploy. It seems like the baby bullet makes smoother purees but is less powerful overall. There also appears to be a size difference in the containers.

Anyone have experience with either one or with the difference between them?

  • My mind was in the gutter till I saw "baby" in the title.

I think getting a good blender would be the best way.  It is something you can use long term and for many purposes.

  • I vote for a food processor, like pp said- multi purposes. Plus you can make baby food in large batches and freeze some.

  • Neither.  I got a $30 Ninja from WalMart and it's amazing.  The double blades really do make a difference.

  • I used the regular magic bullet to make dd's baby food. It worked great.

  • I would get a high quality food processor that you'll use for all eternity.  We have a Cuisinart one, and I used it the entire time I made DD's purees.  It will also chop smooth enough for a Smootie.

  • I would def get the Ninja. The magic/ baby bullet is just too small for me to make stuff.

  • Since you would need something for smoothies and baby food I would recommend a high quality blender. I have the baby bullet and it is too small to do much of anything. I use it to make a smoothie for myself in the morning and I use the storage containers it came with. I highly recommend using silicone trays for frozen baby food rather than ice cube trays as they work much better.

My mom has a Ninja and swears by it.  I've had smoothies from it, and they are really good.  I've also used a food processor to make smoothies, and I really like that too.

One really cool tip that I learned from Pinterest is that the base that screws onto a regular blender jar (along with the blade and the rubber ring) fit onto a regular Mason jar (not the wide mouth ones), so you can DIY your own Bullet type containers with a regular blender.  I've been doing it for smoothies and mixed drinks lately.
