Babies: 6 - 9 Months

7 month old refusing solids

I've been trying to give my baby solids since 5 months. I've tried everything- cereal, purees, and finger foods. She refuses.. Seals her lips.. Shakes her head and hits the food away. I'm at a loss.. Not sure what I an do to get her to have a bite!

  • Are you feeding her the finger foods or is she picking them up? I find that my DD only eats if she picks up the food to put it in her mouth she hates it when people feed her. I would also try Mum Mums or something called Happy Munches they are easy to pick up. My DD also loves slices of cucumber. We do BLW and have a lot of success.

  • My DS is the same way. I'm not to worried since solids are for practice right now. But, I think I am going to try BLW just to see if he is interested. As PP said, I think my LO might not like us feeding him.

I've tried both ways- feeding her and letting her pick it up. I've also tried the mesh feeder and mum mums. I haven't tried cucumbers yet though! I'll give that a shot.. What the heck :)

I thought I was the only one. All the babies I know her age are eating some solids. I evn tried just giving her regular formula from a spoon and she won't take it.

  • Wyatt started out strong at four months but by 6 months started refusing to eat. He shakes his head and puts his hand in front of his mouth, even smacks the spoon away if he has to. He just does not want to be fed, so we started BLW. It can take them a while to figure it out. At first he only explored food, squished it in his hands and mashed it on the tray. I was getting worried because the only thing that made it in his mouth were puffs and mum mums. Just this week he suddenly is picking everything up and actually eating it and loving it. Today he had blueberries, some clementine, cheddar cheese, and spaghetti with pureed sweet potatoes as a sauce. I literally could not believe how much he ate. A friend also told me her LO didn't really eat much of what he was given until around 9 months. Just keep trying, she will eat eventually. GL!

  • DD couldn't care less about solids. We have tried purees, mesh feeder (she only does bananas, all other foods just get smashed), and the one time we did blw she gagged and scared herself (I know they do that but she won't try anymore). We just keep offering and hopefully one day it will click.

We also didn't start until a month ago, so it's still new to her.
