I hit 31 weeks this past Wednesday, and it occurred to me today that DH and I haven't really done anything for this baby. I pulled out DD's gender neutral clothes from her first 6 months, but other than make a small registry, that's it.
Part of me is waiting for after my shower (this is our second, but the ladies at church really wanted to throw me one anyway), but at that point I'll be almost 34 weeks--and there's a chance he could come early.
So when does nesting start? I've got so much going on this month (ILs going to be visiting, my shower, I'm flying out for 3 3-day job interviews in as many weeks, and substitute teaching), I just don't want to have to worry about yet another thing.
I see all these posts about people having their nurseries ready (we don't have a nursery, DS will sleep in our room), is anyone else not really doing much yet? We didn't have this issue with DD because she was in the NICU for so long, I don't know what's typical. Am I just a huge slacker?
Re: Anyone else not started getting ready for baby yet?
Our nursery coming together means that we moved the crib in there and baby stuff from all over the house is being gathered... the only thing I did was put up curtains, something I have been wanting to do since I moved in... and that all happened in the last 2-3 weeks, so third trimester.
Lol as I was getting ready to head to L&D for a false alarm, my lack of preparation came into sharp focus. So, we took the mulligan and got organized after coming home.
I think a lot of it has to do with NOT being a FTM this time around. I haven't done a single thing yet. I was pretty much done everything at this point when I was pregnant with DS.
I'm more interested in getting my spring cleaning done which is still win-win.
We are slowly working on it. By this time I had everything done and set up with DS. I too think it is harder getting everything together this time. We have DSs new room setuup but didnt get his twin bed yet. Then DH will need to convert the toddler bed back to the crib and we still have to get the whole nursery set up .
I didnt even think about the swing, high chair, floor play mat, bouncer etc.
I did do two loads of laundry today for the baby, blankets and some outfits.
I'm doing ok but only because I have an at home daycare and got a newborn two weeks ago. I knew I wanted a new swing and bouncer this time so I made sure I got them to use for that baby as well. She is also using the PnP in our room that DS3 will be using so that is set up. All of my blankets and burp cloths are washed because she is using them now.
My crib is set up, I've bought my carseat because I found what I wanted on an awesome sale, and his clothes are put away because I had to go through them anyway while getting stuff ready for my daycare child. I was so much more prepared by this point in my pregnancy with DS1 & 2. I still have several projects for LO and his room that I haven't even started. Some of them are going to take a little while and I keep meaning to start but I feel like I am always busy doing something else.
I just really started two days ago. I started with a good bout of retail therapy in the city. That was fun!
Yesterday and today I have painted the babys room and tomorrow I will put up the border.
So nesting has his for me. I now feel the "need" to set things up and do laundry and such. I just want everything to be ready come April 26, which honestly isn't all that far away!
I'm at 30 weeks and can't do a whole lot because our home is under renovation, and our garage and basement are being used as a staging area for the new materials and appliances coming in. All of our things are in storage and with luck we'll get to move back in about 2 weeks before the baby comes. So can't do anything to set up a nursery.
We've invested in a travel system and a small travel bassinet, a friend has lent me a bouncer, and that's about it.
Well, it's nice to know it's not just me! I do wonder, as PP said, if it's a "not the first child" syndrome. We have lots of stuff in the basement, I just have to pull it out and sort through it and figure out what won't work anymore (i.e. non BPA free bottles).
Part of my delay, in addition to just having tons of other stuff to do, is superstition. DD was super early, and I've kind of delayed preparing for this one to come because I don't want him to come early. I know the two don't have anything to do with each other, but there's a part of me that says, "If I'm not ready, he's not coming yet."

During my Christmas break from work I sorted out all of DS1's clothes and had a keep and donate pile (DS1 was fall baby, this is spring baby) and put all the keep clothes in the designated drawers. I prepped almost all our cloth diapers. The room has been ready for some time because DS1 was in crib covnerted to toddler bed when we found out we were pregnant, and as soon as we knew we put the crib side back up, lifted it to infant level and gave him a real toddler bed. Baby won't be sharing room though for a while, and we had a playpen we kept from DS1 and baby will sleep in that in our room. I did purchase a gently used changing table early on (already assembled) so that's been up in our room for a very long time.
Really.. since Christmas... I haven't done anything to get ready for baby. I'm working a very physical job that leaves me exhausted when I get home and barely able to do the housework. I was planning on working up until I go into labor, but now I'm rethinking taking off when I reach my due date to be able to get more things around, shop, relax, spend more time with DS1 while he's still an only child, etc.

I could have written this post!
I feel guilty that we haven't done much. It is almost like we aren't as excited as we were with DD. Soooo much went into getting things ready for her. This time, not so much.
Like you, DS will sleep in our room. I have some clothes here but I haven't washed them yet at all. I don't have a changing pad or anything set up for diapers, wipes, etc in our room. I don't even have the stuff for me that I will need.
I am just hoping that after my shower, I'll get my act together. That, and that DS will cook for a full 39 weeks.
