Preemies

for preemie moms 28 weeks or less

So a bit of story quickly ...

prev hyperemesis, IC, and prom - pregnancy ended at 18 weeks

currently 25wks3days pregnant

hyperemeis week 6-17....3wks hospital/8 weeks picc line at home

cerclage 1 @ 12 weeks

from week 12-21 measurements of cervix 1.5-3.0

week 21 - 1st cerclage removed, 2nd cerclage put in (2 days later water ruptured)

been in hospital since week 21 ... doctors wanted me to induce/abort at 21 weeks ... declined and have been in hospital ever since...the doctors didnt think I would make it to even 23 weeks! so im the success on the floor lol ... i leak daily but i still have 4cm of fluid and no infection so...we are just tryin to hold out any extra days we can get...

soo my question is....for moms who had preemies 28 weeks or less how was your labor??? ive read that some ladies say having a preemie hurt less? would you find this truthful?

anything you wanna share i would love to hear!

Re: for preemie moms 28 weeks or less

  • I had two deliveries with my pregnancy. I do not have experience with a FT baby to compare it to. However, my forceps delivered 19 weeker hurt a ton more than my 2lb 4oz 26 weeker. I was well medicated to try to keep me calm (Epi and morphine), I had mag sulfate prophalactically for CP. My labor was much of a happy hour for the L&D team. They all came in to talk to me and laugh. It was like I was on a comedy stage.

His water broke one push before the big one and then he slid out across the room. I don't remember pain from pushing (a whopping 30 minutes) but I remember the immediate relief that he was in the hands of the NICU staff. Emotionally was a different story but physically, it wasn't bad because I was relaxed. They told me not to worry and not to be scared.

Best wishes to you - I hope you last at least 10 more weeks!!

  • Congratulations on making it this far!  My son was born at 26w3d.  I'd have to say that labor didn't really hurt that much for me.  It hurt while he was actually being born, but the contractions themselves didn't hurt much.  I've also heard that preterm labor feels different than full term labor, but I also don't have anything to compare it to.

Good luck!  I hope you're able to hold out awhile longer!

  • I don't have a 28 weeker, but I wanted to say it's awesome you've been able to keep them in so long.  You are clearly one determined mama!

  • I labored to 8 cm and it hurt like a ***. Then I got an epi but I was in so much pain for weeks.  I had a second degree tear. 26w2d preemie.

I had a cerclage a therefore csection with my 35 weeker, but the contractions I did have were not as bad, although close together, I'm not sure how much stronger they would have been. He was 7lb 1 oz

  • I have 28 weekers but never labored and had a c-section.  I just wanted to say I am so happy to see you still hanging on and pregnant!  I remember your post from a  few weeks ago.  I spent 4.5 weeks in antepartum so I know what you are going through.  Hang in there and keep us updated!
  • I have been thinking about you and praying!!!1
  • I hope you are still hanging in there.  Congrats on getting this far.  Every day is important for our LO.

I delivered my LO at 28 weeks exactly.  We had no choice but an emergency c-section.  Depending on the position of your LO, a c-section might be in your future.  Either way, I wish you and your LO the very best.  Keep us updated.

I had a c-section with my 26 weeker because of her lying transverse.  I did have contractions, but I didn't really know I had them.  Once I was on the monitor, I could tell that it was a contraction because it felt exactly like a menstrual cramp to me. I had pProm, for which I had been in the hospital already for 3.5 weeks.

I had to have her since I spiked a fever and my bloodwork showed elevated whiteblood cells.  I started spotting around 1pm, bleeding got worse around 6pm, went down to L&D at 9pm, and she was born just after midnight.

  • I was hospitalized at 21w 5d for pre-term labor membranes ruptured 22w5d and delivered due to infection at 23w3d. Labor was very fast. I didn't know she was in the birth canal. It took 2 pushes and she was out. It was unmedicated. Turthfully the contractions hurt yes but pushing her out didn't because she was so small. My DD was 1lb1oz when she was born and 11 inches long. I guess I don't really know what else you want to know. Active labor was maybe 2 hours. Transition happened fast and she was out. Any questions just ask.

     BTW... I now have H&H 11 month old! :D

  • I was in the hospital from 24wk0d until the babies were born at 27wk5d. I had terrible contractions starting the night before they were born. The following morning, I was in so much pain they did an exam and saw my DD foot was coming out so they rushed me in for an emergency c-section. I was under general anesthesia so I was totally out for the delivery. Best of luck to you!

  • i am kind of in the same boat as you right now but hit 28 weeks and water leaking. I am so worried about my baby and everything. had my appt today and never thought that would be the last time walking in pregnant. if you want to talk message me and we can exchange numbers... not like there is anything else to do in hospitals. lol good luck
  • my dd was born at 24 weeks at 1.08 lbs so i was told that i needed a c-section because she nor i would be able to make it through a normal delivery. I pray that you are able to get as far as possible and that your baby and you are healthy best of prayers.
  • Hi. I delivered twins naturally at 23 wks 3 days. I had ctx from 18 weeks on and they progressively got more intense/painful. I had a very precipitous delivery - 4 large painful ctx followed by baby a's water breaking. From first ctx to baby b delivery - 15 minutes. The ctx right before delivery were all over, why can't you stop this kinda pain. Baby a came quickly with one push, 1#6.2, and he was head first. Baby b, 1#2, was breech and delivered after 2 pushes. I didn't tear but it was very painful.  This was my first pregnancy/delivery. They had wanted to do a section but it happened too fast. My dr and the neos said preemies do best with sections.

You are doing great. Keep up the good work cooking your baby!!

  • First off I have to give you a lot of credit for being in the hospital this long and staying sane.  I lost it after a few days.

My DD was born at 27w6d and it was an emergency c-section due to her decelerating and my Preeclampsia and pregnancy induced hypertension was getting severely worse so they had to take her asap...like within a 20 minute period.  I hope...and this is if I make it far enough next pregnancy..I hope to have a regular birth but I will be high risk.

Best of luck!  Get over the 25 week mark.  I was even told that past 28 weeks the baby has a better chance.  But I've seen MANY babies at 25, 26 and 27 weeks make it.  So, hang in there!
