What about Jedi flying squirrels? Are those safe?

    I love you.  :)

Mine is green tea.  I had no idea you had to avoid green tea.  Is it true that it saps your body of folic acid?

I read the same about green tea in a pregnancy book.  My doc actually recommended I drink green tea instead of coffee if I needed my caffeine (I work at Starbucks and I've just been avoiding all caffeine if possible, which is difficult coming off of like 4 cups a day).

  • I just met with my OB yesterday which pretty much laughed off the idea of denying yourself certain foods during pregnancy.  Peanuts?  Eat em up.  Want some soft cheese?  As long as it's pasteurized eat to your heart's content.  Seafood?  The right seafood is GOOD FOR YOU PEOPLE. She even went so far as to say if I wanted sushi - go for it.  The only thing she told me not to eat was undercooked meat.  She hasn't lost a patient yet and is one of the BEST doctors in my area, specializing in high risk pregnancies (mine is not one).

With all these crazy rules and restrictions, you have to wonder how women gave birth 100, 200, 300 even a 1000 years ago.  It's amazing the human race has survived this long.   Unless you have a dietary restriction that requires you to eliminate some foods, why cause yourself - and your baby - the unnecessary stress.

And with that, I'm smearing my artisan goat cheese on my baguette and chowing down for lunch.

  • I used to be a vet tech and to be safe we usually encourage people to wear a mask too, because the oocysts can become airborne in the litter dust. Keep your cat off your kitchen counters and make sure to disinfect thoroughly before cooking, and wash your hands frequently. You can't tell when the cat is shedding the oocysts (they often have zero other symptoms) so it's better safe than sorry.

Feeding your cat commercial foods and keeping them indoors (so they don't eat an infected mouse or infected feces from other animals) is good prevention too.

If it were me, I'd give the DH litter duty for the next nine months!

    FILL IN THE BLANK!

There are the obvious pregnancy no-no's: alcohol, cigarettes/drugs, cliff diving, bull riding, etc.

The two that are obviously up for debate but still make me pause: deli meat and peanuts.

I'm a big fan of Aleve but now know I need to avoid it for my headaches and body aches.

Have you come across anything that you never thought you'd have to avoid - because it seems harmless?

Whyinthefuckinghell would you not eat peanuts???

I never said I was avoiding them...just that they were brought up as debatable.

In fact, if you kept reading, I specifically say that I am still eating both peanuts and deli meat.

  • I dont understand some people. I ate a yummy greek salad for lunch with feta cheese, and blackened tilapia and buffalo shrimp for dinner. I'am definately not doing the high mercury thing, and having only 1 cup of caffeine a day. My family was talking about this whole food thing while pregnant at the dinner table tonight, and my mom said the smartest thing. she said " I dont understand why pregnant women these days worry about what they eat when there pregnant, my daughter and 2 sons turned out healthy as can be. Also, back when I was having kids there were not alot of babies being born with something wrong with them, and now you have babies all the time being born with something wrong with them."  Also on the aleve thing, I have a list from my doctors office what I can and cannot take and it says I can take aleve until my 28th week. here it is straight from my doctors website. https://www.fwc.net/expecting-mothers/safe-meds-during-pregnancy
