I think it really depends on whether you would want them to know if something did go wrong...

This, exactly. I needed my parents to know now, so that if something goes wrong they're there to support me. So I told them early. We're waiting to tell DH's parents until after we see a heartbeat.
It's a tough call--but, I can tell you this...I got to tell my parents when they were visiting here, and it was a very special thing.
We are waiting a little bit. My first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage at 7 weeks, then we had Owen, then i had an ectopic in September at 5 weeks. Im sure we will tell everyone around 10 weeks. My family lives in New York and dh family lives here in Houston so our plan is to have Owen wearing a shirt that say's " i'm going to be a big brother" and email everyone the photo at the same time.

I actually ran across a similar issue. I saw my parents at 7 weeks and we only see them a couple of times a year, so I told them, but let them know we weren't telling anyone yet. It's been difficult for them to keep a secret, but they've kept it so far, and we're telling my husband's family on Sunday (we're going to be 12 weeks), so they're allowed to spill the beans back home then
It's totally up to you and how comfortable you are with letting people know. I didn't want to tell anyone that early, but I'm glad that I got to in person instead of over Skype or something.
I had a similar dilema, my husband and his father deployed. We found out we were pregnant two weeks before they left for deployment. We really really wanted to tell at tleast our parents together and in person so we decided to tell them at 6 weeks. They were the only people we told and I knew that if something did go wrong that I would definately want them to know and be there to support me especially since my husband is gone.
Go with what is in your gut!
