Was anyone surprised to find out the sex of the baby

We didn't want to find out the sex of the baby because we want to be surprised.  Its fun to guess though .  I feel like I'm going to have a boy and everyone keeps telling me that too....I wanted to see if any of you ladies had that situation where you thought you were having one sex and then ended up with a complete surprise. Id love to hear those stories. :)

Re: Was anyone surprised to find out the sex of the baby

  • Well, I decided to find out via U/S... But according to my gut, just felt we were having a boy. Come to find out we're having a girl :) - a pleasant surprise & her daddy's stunned reaction was priceless, he was speechless & motionless... First time I'd seen him like that since he's super hyperactive

  • thats really cute! my husband secretly wants a girl:)
Have you had any specific types of cravings or any old wives tales that have lined up along with having a girl?
  • I was convinced 100% that this was another DD. We intended to not find out at our 20 week u/s (the only one that's standard procedure for us), but when I got called back at 24 weeks for a follow up, curiosity got the best of me. I just wanted my suspicion to be proven. Alas we found out it's a BOY! I was shocked, but obviously understood there was a chance of that. In a way it makes me more disappointed that we didn't stick with out 'team green' plan, b/c it would have been SUCH a surprise at the delivery! But also, as DH pointed out, I was so convinced it was a girl that had we not found out, we probably would have had the baby with zero name options for him.

  • The hb, wanting to eat fruit mostly during first tri, after first tri cravings are combined of sweet & salty. LoL, most of the other owt didn't really apply & the gender chart was off too.

    I'm carrying low too

  • I was convinced that we were having a boy and so was everyone else.  What a shock it was to find out we were having a girl!  When the u/s tech first told us, I had to have her repeat it just to be sure!  You should have seen the look on my husband's face....I'm sure mine was priceless too!  But, girls are SO much fun to shop for.  My mother started shopping for her the day she found out!

  • Everyone was telling me that I was definitely having a girl...my husband, my mother, friends, etc.  I thought I was having a boy, but was wavering back and forth because they were all so convinced that they began convincing me.  We found out that it was obviously a boy, to my husbands shocking reaction.  He was actually really happy because he didnt think he'd ever get a boy (I dont know why...this is our first baby so...). Not only was DH shocked, but the whole family couldnt believe it (we have all girls), and still cant.  I'm still wondering what the heck I'm going to do with all this blue, since I love girly things, but we're all really happy about the new experience.  My sister actually just had her third child, another girl, and was really convinced it was going to be a boy...guess you never know.

BTW, my sister carried low and she had a girl.  I was carrying higher, but now I'm very low...so I'm not too sure if there's an actual science to gender and how you carry.

  • I'm team green as well and was actually just thinking about this. i am 100% sure we're having a girl. I've even picked out her Easter dress, however I know that I need to keep an open mind. I would be thrilled to have a son, however I just KNOW this is a girl.
  • With DD, we were team green but were totally convinced it was a boy. 3 different ultrasound techs used the pronoun "he" over the course of the pregnancy, there are literally no girl babies in DH's family, an NP at my dr.'s office looked at my NST strip and said "oh so you're having a boy", all of the old wives tales/charts said boy, and I just couldn't imagine having a girl for some reason. We were so shocked when she was born, and so glad we remained team green till the end!

  • Thats really interesting :) So what makes you feel like you KNOW its a girl...anything specific?
  • we thought for sure we were having a boy. especially since in the entire history of my husbands family there has only been one girl born. hahaha guess were having girl number two. it was hilarious to see husbands face when the dr told us.
  • Yep, totally thought #2 was another boy.  I was totally wrong.  DH and I were shocked!  thrilled, but shocked.  I really think this one is a girl, so I will be shocked again if it's a boy.

  • I didn't find out with DD, and I thought she was a boy the whole pregnancy, when DH said we had a girl I could hardly believe it.

We aren't finding out this time either

  • My gut was right both times, although with DS I was nervous about having a boy (kind of a girly girl here) so I almost had myself convinced Connor was going to be a girl.

  • I had dreams of giving birth to a girl baby a few times, and sometimes still do. Sono claims he is ALL boy, and we have checked 5 or more times. I never had a gut feeling about it, I guess.

Also, everyone who sees me thinks I am having a girl with how high I am carrying. He is VERY much in my ribs, and boys "tend to be lower," according to OWT. Also, the ring on a string test said girl...

  • We were surprised with our first.  Everyone kept saying I was carrying a boy so I became convinced it was a boy even though I always felt it could be a girl.  When the dr said it was a girl, I asked my husband if he was sure or if they missed something.

  • With my first DD, we were given a couple of different guesses - first girl then boy.  The boy guess was at a later date and the tech seemed more certain than the first one.  I went into labor thinking boy and she came out a girl.  The surprise was very special.  I would like to be surprised again, but DH really wants to know each time, and I don't feel strongly enough about it to put up a fight.

  • DH and i found out via an ultrasound.  We were both dead set that it was a boy.  If i had to wager my house on it, i would have.  Everyone at work told me i was having a girl but i would not listen to any of them!  When the tech said it was a girl...i cried my eyes out.  Of course i was excited, i would be excited and would have cried for either one!  When i stopped crying i said " A girl, really are you sure?"  She was very sure!  The whole rest of the day, DH and i kept saying "we're having a girl" or "a girl, i can't believe it".  The next day DH told me he secretly wanted a girl and he's so excited!

I'm now due in less than 6 weeks and we can't wait.  DH talks about having a "daddy's little girl" all the time!  I always thought i wouldn't want to find out the sex before birth but we were just as excited when we found out at the doc's office!  Although, it sounds like good motivation to push your baby out!!

  • With DD#1 I knew we were having a girl. No if, ands, or butts about it. With LO here, I had no idea. No gut feeling. All the OWT's said boy -- heart rate said boy -- everything! After I got an u/s from a friend who is a tech at 13 weeks - I didn't have her take a guess since FI or DD#1 weren't there but just had a feeling that LO was a SHE. STILL every single person in my life boy. Everyone called my belly "Liam" our boy name and I just couldn't do it. I kept telling them it didn't feel like Liam. THEE ONLY PERSON that swore there was a girl in my belly was DD#1!! She had names picked out for a girl -- "Katie, Emma, Jenny..." then when my mom asked her what the name should be if LO was a boy .. her answer: "BUMP" .. She was less than impressed with the thought of a little brother lol I think also because people were making such a big deal about it being a boy.

Fast forward to a/s day. We let DD#1 play hooky and we went to the scan. FI wanted a boy in the worst way! His brother had a boy last April and his sister had a boy last June so he was dead set on a boy for us in May (even with DD#1, he wanted a boy). The scan started. Couldn't get a good look so the tech came back later. Finally got thee most clear money shot for a girl I've ever seen and she said "do you know what that is?" and I said "Ohhh that's a girl!" and DD#1 turned to her dad and said "I told you! I told all of you! I was right all along! I knew it!" )DD will be 6 in August) so she was jumping around like a maniac and Dad's face was priceless, stunned, shocked -- everyone had convinced him he was getting his boy hahaha DD#1 called my mom and said "Nan, we're having a sista!" She was so thrilled. FI turned to me the next day and said "now 3 girls will have me wrapped around their fingers and I can't wait! lets go buy paint and start the nursery."

Took him a day to get used to it lol but now he's so excited! DD#1 and Daddy are glued together. He keeps saying "you better impress this one early on because you know who she's coming to once she's off the breast milk!" hahaha jerk!

  • Honestly, on some level I was kind of hoping for a girl as was pretty much everyone on both sides of the family. There are no girl children in either of our families and we are only having one child. But I guess just because of the fact that we are surrounded by SO MANY BOYS, I was 100% convinced that I was having one too. And obviously I would have been fine with that. We had a great name picked out and awesome nursery theme that I was stoked to get started on once we knew for sure.

When the tech told us that she was a she, I flipped. Like uncontrollable crying. My husband was crying too. It was really the most awesome surprise I've ever had in my entire life.

  • I thought DH and I were having a boy-based on old wives tales really--They say a boy doesn't change your face that much and you crave salty..that was totally me..Everyone keeps telling me how great l look (even when I feel like crap)..Low and behold we found out at our anatomy sono that it was a girl for sure..My MIL and family said the whole time they thought "boy"..Maybe it was their wishful thinking since both grandparents have two granddaughters already..lol..Either way DH and I were not disappointed, just surprised..and I know we would have been happy no matter what as long as the baby was healthy..
  • I just knew from very early on it was a boy, and DH was convinced it was a girl.  At our u/s it was a boy, so no surprise for me but DH was very!
