I will be having a repeat C-section with this baby. With my last baby three years ago, I was planning on EBF, but after my C-section, my milk supply did not come in until day 5!!! DS lost a pound of weight in the hospital and I decided to supplement with formula. This worked out great.....he gained his weight back no problem. No nipple confusion or adversion to BM or formula....he ate whatever!
Re: Anyone else planning on BF and Formula feeding?
I am in the same boat! We supplemented in the hospital but my supply came back in full force on Day 4. She did great.
Supplementing also allowed me to build up a freezer stash. In the end, I learned that my daughter had a milk allergy and I was glad we had introduced formula because it made the transition to soy easier.
Yep - me. We'll supplement with formula until I go back to work (I'm taking 16 weeks off) and then she'll be exclusively on formula at 4 months. GL!
I also had a C-section and milk didn't come in until day 4 and I'll be having a RCS with this babe. I've also had a breast reduction.
I EBF with my 1st successfully because I was home FT and he refused formula - he would scream bloody murder if we tried to feed him anything else. My milk also takes 5 days to come in everytime. With my second I attempted to EBF, but as soon as I put him in day care at 6 weeks to go back to work I had to start supplementing while he was away from me. He would switch from breast to bottle with no problem, but my supply ran out around 6 months just because I was away from him for so long every day. With my twins I went with a combination of BF and formula feeding, but they definitely took more formula than breast milk each. I kept that up for about 6 months as well before I dried up.
This time around, I'm at home full time, so I want to EBF again. It is a huge PITA though at first with the demading feeding schedule and I've got four other kids to chase after now, so we'll see how it goes. I'm not afraid to offer formula when needed.
I also plan to do this. This is my 1st child and I have to go back to work in 8 weeks and I want to try to BF and then supplement as well. I guess for many reasons, convenience, so my DH can help me out and also so my LO can get use to it b4 I return to work.
I'm glad there are lots of women on here doing the same. I've been getting some crap about it. But to each is own right?
