My last pumping-End EPing

I am currently doing my last pumping,  DS turns 6 months tomorrow and since the last week I have barely pumped a bottles worth in 2 sessions(when I use to be a milk cow) I am giving up.  DS prob has 5 weeks (or more) of milk in the freezer so he will still get the bm for a little bit.

So I two questions for you. 1: EPers - how long did you make it or are you still going? and 2: When do you think I should start adding formula?  My stash is rather old from Oct on with the most in Oct but the majority is kept in its own deep freeze and I just bring up the box that I am currently using to our up stairs deep freeze.  So under some guidelines it will be good until DS is one.

Re: My last pumping-End EPing

  • Way to go! With DD I was am EPer and lasted 7 months. Towards the end it was such a pain and it was so freeing to give it up. Start formula when you're almost out of BM. My DD was surprised at the taste at the first bottle but she took it fine after that and preferred the formula to the frozen milk.

  • Congrats!! I'm still going...hoping to make it to the one year mark or June, at least. If I could save enough milk, I'll be able to stop pumping in June, but as of now, I'm just maintaining my stash.

Isaac has had a few bottles of formula. He didn't care for the taste, but the last time he had it, he threw up....a lot. Like, real throw up, not spit up.

This is kind of what I wondered and would worry about.  I would like to give him some of each for the next few months but I don't want to mix it that long and worry he would start to perfer formula so I guess I better wait till I am on my last box.

    Thanks for the advice!

  • I'm still EPing and DS is almost 7 months.  However, I'm going to begin weaning from the pump in a few weeks.  I think I have enough in the freezer to make it another month (if not two), but I honestly haven't counted it all up. I'm hoping to get him as close to 9m as possible on BM, though I would have preferred a year.  He's just so active already that it's nearly impossible to get pumped enough during the day to keep me from clogging and/or totally losing supply.

I had a supply dip at 6m, after a huge and sustained dip at 4m.  However, it came back up shortly after 6m to almost where it was before 4m.  I wonder if you're having something similar.  Stupid hormones.

  • I would do combined bottles until you run out of milk. My friend EPd, and this is what she did in order to provide at least a little bit of BM each day until her DD turned 1. Her daughter had no issues with bottles that were part BM/part FF.
  • Oh, the combined bottles is a good idea!

Congrats, OP! Pumping sucks Big Smile. I'm wondering how much longer I will pump at work. You're a rock star for doing it exclusively!

  • I'm still pumping but it's getting more and more difficult.  DD was six months on Sunday.  I commend all of you exclusive pumpers.  I really do not think I could have done it.  I pump 3-4 times a day and HATE it.  I try to stay away from the pump on weekends as much as possible.

In rotating my supply I've been using frozen milk with DD and she has had no problems with it at all.  I know some babys do though.  My pediatrician had told me if LO has issues with frozen milk to either combine the frozen with some fresh milk or combine the frozen with formula.

Congratulations for making it 6 months!!  That's such an accomplishment!

  • I am sure some of it has to do with age, as I tried Fuengreek and blessed thistle with no results.  But I also started to slack on the weekends and eventually it started to catch up to me.

I hadn't pumped more than 4 times a day since at least December. So you are the one doing Awesome!  Work was a constraint though because my job last year was 8 hours and 1/2 hour lunch with no breaks.  Go figure the place that breaks the 30 min lunch and 2x 15 min breaks is a hospital (Admitting department)
