Pregnant after a Loss

Aversion to buying things

Im 22 weeks and all I've bought a pack of wipes. I am super paranoid about buying stuff too early. Like the thought of buying anything several weeks earlier sent me into a panic attack. So I just gave up on it for awhile. After my 6 month check up and ultrasound we plan on buying diapers.

Anyone else this way. I told my friends don't throw me a baby shower till the 9 month. Like I'm good as long as I have a onesee, a diaper, and a binkie. Oh and a burp cloth and a blanket.

Re: Aversion to buying things

  • Totally normal.

I'm not going to buy anything until after the a/s scan, so I still have quite a wait ahead of me. If that goes well, though, I'm going nuts and buying everything.

It was a rough road, but Arlo Daniel was born April 1, 2013—and our second rainbow is due October 12, 2014.

  • I told my friend no shower, but we can do an introduction BBQ after it comes.  we have enough on hand for the first few weeks, and i'd rather introduce the baby to everyone than do a party before, just incase.

  • I didn't buy any maternity clothes until after my NT scan at 12 weeks.  I would have a complete panic attack in the dressing room and leave.

After our a/s scan at 18 weeks it still took me another 5 weeks before I made my 1st baby purchase.  I made it really special.  We went out for my birthday and bought LO's going home outfit.  Since then it has been really easy (a little too easy haha) to buy her things.  I actually get excited now.

The next step for me is to take off the tags of her clothes and wash them.  One step at a time!

This.  I'm scared to buy anything! I told DH last night I wish I could get away with not buying ANYTHING until I had delivered the baby and knew they were safe. I like the idea of a Introduction BBQ, but being due in October, the weather in Oregon can be nasty. I'm not sure what I am going to do yet.

  • I didn't buy anything last time because I was so worried it would jinx the pregnancy. I had three baby showers when I was 8 months pregnant and got pretty much everything we would need. We took the next several weeks making sure we had everything and made returns for stuff we had too much of. I didn't take the tags off of the clothes. I washed blankets, sheets and newborn outfits. We did buy her going home outfit the last month because I wanted to make sure we got the right size. She only wore two outfits at home and her going home dress. So now I have a closet full of clothes with tags still on them and a room full of stuff waiting for this baby.

I don't know if there is a point for some people to breathe a sigh of relief and just let the anxiety go. I am even more anxious this time.

All I can say is don't go too crazy too early. I waited until the end and was glad I did. My mom kept saying don't buy anything, but despite what happened I am glad I had everything ready.

In the spirit of trying to stay positive I did get a newborn onesie the other day.

Sorry that is long, but I hope in some way it helps.

  • I haven't bought much yet either.  Haven't done much around the house either.  It finally clicked with me that I was being overly cautious at this point and depriving my family of participating.  But, at 22 weeks, I think you have plenty of time still.  When you're ready, you'll know.

  • I finally got over the fear of even planning for when baby comes.  I am 18 weeks and have my u/s in two weeks.  I actually just this week wrote a list of things to register for.  Still too scared to even buy anything.  DH would rather we not buy ANYTHING until oh I am actually pushing the kid out!

I think after going through a loss you really take a step back.  I see a lot of girls on FB post that they just bought _____ for baby at 8 weeks pg!

My birthday is the day before the u/s I am taking off work and planning on setting up a registry.  But to be honest I am SOOO scared of doing that- Im worried ill jinx myself.

Just take a deep breath and we are all in the same boat.

Yup I plan on once I actually buy stuff, to leave the tags on and keep the receipts.  I told my mom that too, shes waiting till I give her the green light to go shopping.

  • Nice to hear ladies. I don't feel bad about it which is nice. It's also nice to be feeling regular strong kicks. Helps me bond with my baby and talk to the LO. My SO is in the same boat and I think it helps him relax a little.
  • I have been scared to buy things too   =(  We did buy a few things though .... but always made sure it was super cheap or a mega good deal! I am terrified to buy anything big.

I had two losses .. one at 24 weeks and one at 20 weeks. My water broke too soon and I went into labor and had to deliver. I went through labor and delivery both times so I am horrified of this happening again   =(

    Your not alone
