What is your total daily calorie intake?

Hi ladies

Whats your total daily caloric intake?

How many additional calories are needed for third tri? I heard 500? Is this accurate?

Re: What is your total daily calorie intake?

  • I am tracking on sparkpeople, mostly to keep up my 40/30/30 carb/fat/protein ratios.  Usually I net 1700-1800, before adding extra for workouts.  I eat when I'm hungry, and due to getting enough protein, I'm usually pretty satisfied.

I wouldn't add an extra 500 calories unless you are actually hungry for them, kwim?  Or underweight, or your Dr. tell you to gain more.

  • In my 1st trimester I consumed about 1650 calories which was the amount to maintain my prepregnancy weight.  And it worked for me since I didn't gain any additional weight during that time.  My 2nd trimester I adjusted my calories until I was gaining about a pound a week.  That turned out to be an additional 100 calories per day.  My 3rd trimester I kind of got out of control.  I now eat about an additional 1000 calories a day since I've been very hungry and gain about 2 lbs per week.  I also worked out until my 3rd tri.  You really have to see what works for you.  I think as long as you are gaining about 1 to 2 lbs a week in the 2nd and 3rd trimester then you are fine.

  • I believe it's still only 300 extra calories per day the whole pregnancy, and 500 if you are nursing.

Wow. I lost a pound a week eating 1700-1800 calories per day before I was pregnant (which means my deficit was an average of 500caloires/day).

I haven't been tracking, but I'm certainly eating at least 2500 calories/day if not more.

Sorry, to be clear I should have mentioned that according to my BMR, 1700 is enough for me.  Everyone has different needs, and also I do add 300-400 on the days that I work out.  I did similar for my DS pregnancy and kept my weight gain under control, and energy levels up:)

  • I use My Fitness Pal - I set my profile to maintain my weight, then added 300 extra for 2nd and 3rd tri. Lately I've been way overeating, though, so I've cut the extra 300 which gives me 2000 a day. I've gained half what I did with DD so far, so it has at least helped.

  • I have no idea, but I'm sure it's alarming.
  • I don't count calories, I just listen to my body. Eat when I'm hungry, not when I'm full. Grab a snack between meals or after if I feel like it... Your body will let you know if it wants or needs more.
  • I asked my doc and she wouldn't tell me the total I should shoot for. She said not to worry about it, eat when I feel hungry, and try to make healthy choices. Now isn't the time to be calorie conscious unless maybe you aren't eating enough or are having a problem with eating waaaay too much.
  • I just eat what I want, but I think its 300 more a day, I only count calories when skinny and then I eat 1000 a day so now that im pregnant I just enjoy what I want otherwise I would go crazy, ill go back to counting after the baby is here!

  • Its very busy! There's not a lot of down time as you know! I try to rest when he naps but other than that my down time is bedtime or if my husband comes home and takes over for a bit!
