No heartbeat with doppler

Today my OB could not hear the heartbeat with the doppler. She actually tried 2 different ones. She casually moved me to the ultrasound room and we were able to see it on U/S. My concern is that the tech could not capture it to measure the rate. The baby was just lying there, not moving so I don't know if it was 100 or 160. I was measuring 12 weeks 6 days, ahead almost 9 days. I just don't feel reassured. I have my NT scan on Friday, but that seems like an eternity from now.

Anyone with a similar story/experience?

  • If your OB wasn't concerned, you don't need to be, either.  It sounds like they found the h/b and all is well.  Don't look for reasons to stress!

My OB's nurse had trouble finding DS's h/b at 11-12 weeks as well.  I was finding it at home by that point, it just depends on where the baby's at at that moment.  As long as the u/s showed a baby with a h/b, you're FINE.

  • At 11 weeks it's difficult to catch a hb on a doppler- my doctor doesn't even bother trying until 12 weeks b/c it freaks people out.

I've never heard of an u/s tech not being able to "capture" the HB though, especially as far along as you are.  You could see it on the screen - right?  When the tech had problems, did they send a doctor in?  I'd be surprised by any doctor who let you leave without getting an accurate hb.

  • i have an appt on thursday for my 10-almost 11wk check up. 1st u/s said i was 5 days behind, but heard and saw h/b at 8w5d, so extremely happy about that. im worried that we wont hear anything at thursday appt. i had a m/c at 6wks back in november 2011. so im just scared something is going to happen. hopefully its my worry-wartness.

    good luck to you.

  • Thanks for the feedback ladies. I knew you would make me feel better and I really appreciate it. Smile
