Can someone please explain the mad craze for Good Mama's and CD like them that have amazingly cute fitted diapers? I mean I have bought 3. They are okay, not my favorite by far. I am not opposed to buying an expensive diaper if its great but my regular solid colored fitteds and a cute cover work just as well (I only pay $25 for Sustainablebabyish fitteds). But WHY do people pay $30-$45 for insanely cute fitteds that you just throw a cover over anyway??
So it's not like you pair them with a cute top or anything. They leak without a cover. I have to believe that there is something I am missing since these things are so hard to get and people stalk their site buy them. So you wait in line to spend your $40 bucks that you have to buy a separate cover for anyway??
I do know they have a couple AIO from time to time but their main thing is the fitteds.
Re: Can someone please explain...I HAVE to be missing something.....
Check out this Bumpie Business List .
do you ever buy cute underwear for yourself?
The old days have come again! I wonder if I can find my old PSA.
I found it!
Are they really that great?

They're ok. GMs fit some babies better than others, some people like the quality better than others, there's a competitive buy/sell/trade market for them, and all put together that's why there's a craze for them.
Other fitteds work just as well, they're just not as popular.
They're fitteds? Why are you buying cute prints if you're going to cover them up? (Several answers)
Yes, they're fitteds and you will need a cover. However, some people like to let their babies run around coverless to let the butt breathe. Others liken it to the reason why we buy pretty underwear, because we like to.
We use fitteds because they are breathable & absorbent! It doesn't matter if they have prints (like GMs) or if they don't (like the sbish) we would still use fitteds either way. The prints are just fun for me. Also, I figure DD will like them once she gets older - just like my step son likes to wear batman & toy story undies rather than plain white. That's my reasoning for the cute designs!
Why are GM fitteds more expensive than other diapers?
Fitteds in general are made entirely of natural fibers, which are more expensive than synthetic fibers. They are also hand made by WAHMs making fair wages. So time and labor are factored into the price. The prices of GMs are higher than other brands because of the high demand for them.
How can you justify spending so much on one diaper?!
Goodmamas (currently) have a good resale value. (Before someone busts my balls on this, the resale value is seeing another uptick again. NIPs are at least going for retail again.)
Most people (myself included) don't put a cover over their cute fitteds at home. I don't even put a cover over them when we go out! So yes, actually, I do pair the diaper with a cute t-shirt and have an outfit. Good fitteds are usually made with high quality, often organic, material. And the ones I use can go hours before even getting damp on the outside, and they NEVER leak (yes that's without a cover). Also they're fantastic for overnight if you've got a heavy wetter. So I'm ok with dropping $30 on something that saves me from changing wet jammies and sheets in the middle of the night.
I know it's crazy for something my kid just poops in, but there's the madness behind my love for them.
That video was awesome!!!!!
I agree for 10-$15 I would agree they work for a fitted. It just made no sense to me to pay so much for the cuteness and cover it up.
thanks again for the laugh
I heart you pixy!
FWIW, I love GMs. They work really well for my LO and I would buy these any day over any pocket.
I bought a few GMs used and I tried using them without covers. Maybe my DD is a super heavy wetter (never seemed that way to me though) but it never took long before she left a damp butt-print somewhere in an uncovered GM. And for a nighttime diaper we definitely also had leaks from them.
I still have my GMs and I'll use them on LO #2, but I'm not expecting to hear angels sing or anything when I do.
Back in the day Pixy is referring to the majority of ladies on the Eco-Friendly board were definitely GM fans. I found it refreshing upon returning to theBump after a couple years that people seem less GM oriented on this board. They just weren't the miracle diaper I was hoping for. Maybe they are for some though. That's the thing about cloth diapers.
I remember thinking the same thing as the OP post title about GMs.
Oh, I don't have any GMs, so I can't speak to those. I'm just meaning a well made WAHM fitted.
Actually, that PSA was from March of last year from *this* board. I think I stopped posting it around Juneish when the market tanked. The GM craze is cyclical. I can see it ramping up again.
For reals? Oy vey. They were starting to die down a couple years ago. You're right about them being cyclical. They have staying power somehow even with exorbitant prices. Good news for GM makers I guess.
I am so glad it's not just me. I was beginning to think I was losing my mind. I am glad to hear that the reason for the price is giving work to moms like us.
I don't know if I would use mine without a cover but at least I have that option if needed.
Thanks ladies!!!!
