What strategies do you use to keep your kinds from climbing out of their cribs/beds? I have tried everything:
1. To remain emotionless, and just pick them up and put them back in their bed. Over and over and over.
2. Sitting in the chair in their room until they fall asleep.
3. Shortening their daytime nap.
4. More daytime excercise.
5. Spanking. Sadly, I tried. I can hardly even get a reaction with those diapers.
Once they fall asleep, I leave the room but if they come into my room in the middle of the night, I take them right back but have to stay in the room until they fall back asleep or they'll climb RIGHT back out.
What do you guys do? What am I missing here?
Re: I'm buying cocktails for whomever can help me with this! (bedtime related)
I know some people put a gate on the door so they can't get out of the room. Are they in cribs or beds-- for cribs how about a crib tent?
I think picking one of your techniques and sticking to it is the way I would go. I would stick with the picking them up and putting them back in....as long as it takes, wiht no real attention given to them. Eventually (hopefully after a few days) they will get the message that they are wasting their time.
Luckily mine only leaves her bed to get something (a book or change her underpants-- which is a totally different issue) but if she stayed out of bed but stayed in the room, I'd probably let it go since she'd fall asleep at some point.
We also have a monitor that has a two way speaker so when she does start to get out of bed after she has been up there long enough to be asleep, we speak into it "go back in bed and go to sleep"-- we try not to over use it and so far it works like a dream, she scurries back in bed and is asleep in a minute.
Sorry, that's all I've got. When they are a little older I think you can work more on rewards.
JDP and Desa...thank you!
They are in cribs. I am contemplating a crib tent BUT one thing I also do that I didn't list is put them in sleep sacks and they can unzip those sacks in a heart beat... I think the tents are also zippers.
I'm not sure that I could stomach the door locking.... maybe when they are in beds and a tad older.
I LOVE the two way radio on the monitor... I'll look into that.
Thank you both for your feedback! This is all new, they used to be such awesome sleepers.
