I kind of like it, it's different without being way out there or look like your trying to hard, it is very similar to Lola though and I can imagine people assuming that's what you said.
Zola sounds like a name someone would give to their dog. I wouldn't even like it on a dog, though, much less on a person.

I don't watch Grey's Anatomy, but I immediately think of Emile Zola, the author. A literary genius, sure, but also kinda creepy and not someone I'd like to be named after.
That aside, I don't like it at all. To me, it's not a particularly nice sounding name.

That was absolutely my first thought too--Emile Zola.
It sounds odd to me, I think because I have a DD named Lola and so Zola sounds to me like Zichael or Zennifer. But its kind of cute!
Haha. I think that's why I like it. I adore the name Lola but I can't get past all the copacabana references. When I heard Zola, it just kinda stuck and then I realized why I might like it. Clearly, it's not going to be a popular name or even well liked for that matter.
A girl on my facebook just named her baby Zola Nicole. I don't really like the name but as usual now that she has posted pics, it just seems to fit the baby even though I don't like it as a name. If you like it go for it. It isn't a terrible name...and until I read this post I hadn't heard of any of these other references so I don't think most of them will be a big deal especially as your baby ages.

Re: Thoughts on the name Zola
Yep.
Proud Mama to cleft cutie
I agree with the Grey's thing but I also think it's different enough that it won't be a lot of people's style. It's certainly not mainstream.

Reminds me of depression medicine... (I think it is depression medicine, not sure though).
That was absolutely my first thought too--Emile Zola.

My Married Bio
Yep - Emile Zola - (the novel Germinal)
My great Aunt's name was Zelda. I know it is a bit of an old fashion name but I love it and thought I would throw it out there as another option.
Good luck!
