3rd Trimester

Baby Shower

I am curious how many people know when they are having a baby shower and who is planning it.   It used to be friends gave the baby shower it seems like more these days mothers do it.  My mother told me that was not her responsibility and I was just curious how everyone was having theirs done.

Re: Baby Shower

  • I was 35w 2d when I had my baby shower, thrown by my mom, who also co-hosted my bridal shower with my MIL.

I think the shower should be thrown by someone with the time, energy and money to do it.  In my case, it's my mom.  My best friend and I have sort of been on the outs lately (but I still love her blah blah blah) and besides that, she works full time, is in school, is planning a wedding, buying a house and raising a 9 year old.  Not exactly a lot of time for planning a party.

  • My mom did throw my baby shower, with the help of a friend of mine, but we have a very special relationship and I consider her a best friend as well as my mom, so there's nobody else in the world I would have rather have throw it!

I see no problem with a mom hosting a baby shower for her daughter- after all, the gifts are for the baby, not for the mom herself, and certainly not for the grandma-to-be, so I don't see how it could be considered rude.

  • My mom and sister co-hosted my baby shower...I was 33 weeks along.  Never really knew what was "ettiquette" anyway, so I didnt see any problem at all.  I say whoever has the time and patience for it.  :)

  • We have a date set (March 31st) I will be 34w4d. My step mom and sister are planning it.

I am not close to my Mom at all really, so my step mom (whom I am very close to) said that she will step in for it. From what I have heard, its coming along quite well.

  • My shower is going to be March 10th (I will be about 32 weeks). My mom is hosting it with some help from one of my friends.
  • Ettiquette says that immediate family, Mom's, sister's, MIL's, don't do showers.  friends etc....do.  I tend to stick with this.

  • I am 31 weeks and had my first baby shower 2 weekends ago. My twin sister and best friend offered to co-host this first shower. I didn't have to ask them. They just volunteered. I had actually hosted my best friend's shower and so she was super excited to host my shower.  It was one of those reciprocal type things.  My sister is excited to be an aunt and loves to plan, host and throw parties so she jumped at the chance to co-host.

One of my close co-workers has offered to host my work baby shower which is going to be March 22nd. I didn't have to ask her to host it she just volunteered because she is very excited for me and it's tradition within our office to have a work baby shower for employees who are having babies.

My mom is no longer with us and my husband's mom lives out of state, so neither of them could have hosted the shower.

Anymore it seems like close friends and sisters or Aunts are the one's to host baby showers.  I think if no one is offering to host a shower for you, you can always have a Welcome Baby Shower after baby is born, where folks come and meet the new baby and you celebrate babies birth.

In the end though you really can't ask that someone host your shower. I think I was jsut lucky because I had hosted showers for my friends and I have friends/relatives who enjoy hosting parties.

  • I know almost all of the information about my baby shower, I needed to though, as I have alot going on. Three of my friends are throwing it, with help (money wise & invite wise) from an aunt and with help from my mom. She is just giving ideas, as she can't do much, she has had two brain surgeries in the last four months and is going for her 3rd and hopefully final one around the time of my shower, so she is house bound. My friends, aunt and mom offered, I didn't ask anyone to throw one for me. Also min is being held when I am 31 weeks, as my drs don't think I will make it much past 31 weeks..
My little pumpkin was born at 34weeks, weighing 3lbs, due to severe IUGR & Unexplained Placental Insufficiency. He spent 49 days in the NICU. Lilypie Premature Baby tickers imageimageimageimageimageimage
  • My MIL is hosting one in Texas when I'm 29 weeks, my mom is hosting one in Pennsylvania when I'm 30 weeks, and a good friend is hosting one in Colorado (where we live) when I'm 31 weeks.

  • I'm due May 24 and having my shower March 10.  A bit early, but between weddings and easter it made the most sense.  My sister is the main planner/hostess, my friend is hosting it at her place, and my SIL is "helping".

  • My showers were supposed to be surprises but I ended up finding out the dates ahead of time for each.  For the one for my family, my cousin and best friend officially hosted it with help (planning ideas, money, and food) from my mom.  For the shower for DH's side, my MIL and SIL hosted it.

  • My mother in law and sister in law threw a joint shower for me and my future sister in law when I was only about 20 weeks (my future SIL was further along but they wanted a joint shower for outta town family).

I will be 35 weeks this coming weekend when my mom is throwing me a shower with my side of the family and friends. A few of my friends are helping her. She and I are super close & she was really excited to do it so I couldn't be more thrilled to see the outcome! :)

  • I'm not big into mothers hosting...

I have two showers.  One hosted by my cousin and godmother, the second hosted by my old church (we just moved)
