Teeth and nighttime feeding

So lo finally has her first tooth! But now I am wondering of this means I should really drop that nighttime feeding. I'm thinking along the lines of what's good for her teeth. Any thoughts? We go to the pedi on Thursday and I already know she is going to tell me that Ella should be sleeping through the night... But I wanted to know other mommas thoughts of what you've heard from dentists or your pedi.

Re: Teeth and nighttime feeding

  • I'm a dentist and once my LO got teeth, we got rid of the overnight feedings. She does get a bottle before bed but we brush her teeth after. If you are able to clean her teeth afterwards then it's probably ok but if she's falling asleep while eating then this could put her at higher risk for decay. Especially if she's eating frequently (that was our issue - she was nursing multiple times per night). Talk to your Pedi also - you need to weigh what's best for your child's general health and her oral health. Perhaps if you can't drop night feedings right away you can work on cleaning her teeth after. HTH!
